2.1.1 1996 - 2008
Since 1996, the year of tragic death of singer Gilda, there were many rumors about a possible movie, where actress and singer Natalia Oreiro would perform the famous artist. For a long time the movie was, however, missing a solid script that would show her life story in an interesting and engaging way and would not be purely biographical documentary. Oreiro herself said many times that she was offered the role of Gilda and that she would like to perform her should the script be of a very good quality.
On September 4, 2008, at the premier of film Motivos para no enamorarse, the movie’s director Mariano Mucci said that he is planning to make a movie called Yo soy Gilda. He said about the movie: “It is a project that I am focusing on mostly at the moment, I received the newest version of the script and I would like to make the movie with Natalia Oreiro as Gilda! It is going to be a biographical film, which will not tell her whole life story, but will center on Gilda’s final years. Gilda started to sing when she was 30 and died at the age of 35, thus her biggest fame came only in the last two years of her life.” The potential filming was, however, stopped because the production did not get necessary rights for Gilda’s story.

2.1.2 2014
After many years, when it seemed like making a movie is completely impossible, Argentinean director Lorena Muñoz surprised with news, which she revealed on July 5, 2014 in an interview for radio Rivadavia: “At the moment I am finishing the first version of a script about Gilda, who would be portrayed by Natalia Oreiro, who is part of the project not only as an actress and singer, but also she helped to get rights for Gilda’s life story. The film could be shot in April and May 2015.” Moreover, it was announced that the premiere could take place in year of 2016. Muñoz was selected in May 2014 from hundreds of Argentinean film projects by Ministry of Culture (El Ministerio de Industrias Culturales de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires), to travel to Cannes Film Festival 2014 where she could meet up with international film producers and distribution companies as part of famous Marché du Film. One of the production companies will surely be Argentinean Habitación 1520, which among other projects produces also a big hit film Infancia Clandestina from year of 2011.
The very first official press conference for the upcoming film project Gilda, No me arrepiento de este amor took place on Tuesday September 9, 2014 at 6pm in the building Samsung Studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The press conference was started by the lead film protagonist Natalia Oreiro, who sang Gilda’s greatest hit song No me arrepiento de este amor whose title also gave name for the movie. Guitar player Leo García accompanied Oreiro for the acoustic version of the song. Furthermore, director Lorena Muñoz and producers Benjamín Ávila and Maxi Dubois were present at the conference to attend to the media.

Film’s director, who is herself a Gilda’s fan, said: “During past several years there were 5 or 6 producers trying to obtain film’s rights. We got the rights only after we presented the script to Fabrizio Cagnin, Gilda’s son, Toti Giménez, Gilda’s co-author and writer, and Raúl Cagnin, her ex-husband,“ she explained. Oreiro added how they persuaded the right’s owners to give them the rights: “It was something very natural and nice; we wrote a letter to Fabrizio, where we explained how we see his mum and our reasons for making the movie. Lorena met with Fabrizio in person and he told her that it was alright, that it was the right time to make the movie, that he trusts her and that he wants me to portray Gilda.” Oreiro, furthermore, said about film’s musical side: “I will sing the songs, but I will do so as Gilda would, it will not be my own versions of the songs. But there will also be original songs heard because it is something her fans would want to hear.” Muñoz also talked about origins of the project: “I talked to many people who knew her and that was my starting point where to begin the story. There are many situations that people do not know and I believe it is these situations that make her very human. I was writing the story and at the same time I was in close touch with Natalia; I was calling her, telling her news and we were discussing everything. At one point it became impossible to think of Gilda without thinking of Natalia. The film is a combination of melodrama and musical where songs serve as an addition to the storyline. The story takes place mostly in years of 1990 – 1996 but there are also flashbacks to the time of Gilda’s childhood or the time of becoming a wife and mother.” Oreiro talked also about the fact that for the first time she will serve as a producer: “It is something so personal to portray Gilda that when I was offered to produce the movie as well I was very scared. But I thought about it and after some time I agreed because it was something I actually desired to do.” Film’s premiere was preliminary planned for year of 2016, the year when it will be 20 years from the death of the artist. Oreiro adds: “From my personal side I am very happy for the film because I like Gilda and her work. From the professional side the film is a huge challenge for me, but at the same time it is something I desired to do since I was 20 years old. Our script is very specific because everyone knows the myth that Gilda has become, but not many people know who the real Miriam (Gilda’s real name) was and what kind of wife, mother or friend she was. That is why I believe we will make a movie that I always dreamed of making.” At the press conference there was also the very first promotional poster revealed featuring Oreiro as Gilda in one of her most famous photos.
Movie producer Benjamín Ávila said in an interview for newspaper La Gaceta from November 1st, 2014. “It will be a movie of highest quality, from esthetical and drama perspective that focuses mainly on the human part of Gilda than on the celebrity part. The filming is planned for September 2015.“

It is a project I have always desired to make. The script os fantastic and the film will be shot by Lorena Muñoz, amazing director. It is an official biographical film that was approved by her son Fabricio. I already sang Gilda’s songs before but they are my versions, now I will sing the songs like she would. It is a huge responsibility because Gilda was a loved artist but the script is very good and I think that is the good base for a good movie.”

Everything I do I do with full commitment, and I felt that I could not bring one hundred percent as an actress, as well as hundred percent as as a producer.” She adds: “Now I'm going with my family to Uruguay to take some rest, but then I still have some work to do for the soundtrack that comes along with the premiere of the film, and in August we begin with the movie promotion.”

   1. Promo events for Gilda (July, August & September 2016)
Promotions for the feature film Gilda had already begun two months before the premiere. The motive of production and PR team PulpoPR was to introduce the film to the widest possible audience of Argentina.
On Thursday July 14, 2016 an article was published in the newspaper La Nación about costumes for the film. In an interview film costume designer, Julio Suarez and actress Natalia Oreiro said: “Gilda was an angel, if you heard her talking during the concert, she always transmitted to the audience peace and hope, she was always talking about that we should believe in dreams,” said Oreiro: “Gilda loved short jacket with leopard that it seemed she has never take it off. There were also at that time very modern elements such as fringe, fleeting tops, daring dresses and high-waisted trousers and sweaters. Vinyl, lurex, lace and leather are the materials that were most common in the closet of the singer. She also liked to combine various kinds of textile, which at that time was not so common. It was so creative that she sewed and re-sewed her own clothes, she participated in a lot of things. She redesigned clothes, which she bought on the street Avellaneda, and she gave it a more personal touch in the form of embroidery of sequins and stones; all that gave her a specific charm,” said Oreiro about clothing and Suaréz also describes her passion for jewelry: “In addition, she also loved jewelry and hair accessories. She wore pearl earrings of various sizes, and rubber bands in her hair.” In the film they tried to use the exact clothing that Gilda wore. Oreiro has, for example, a copy of the dress from the CD Corazón Valiente. “It was for me the funniest costumes I've ever done,” says Suarez.

And the most important thing for me was that I do not disappoint her son Fabricio,” said Oreiro in an interview: “My husband Ricardo Mollo helped me a lot when recording and producing the CD, also he taught me to play a guitar for a few scenes. And he has a small role in the film, a cameo,” she laughs. At 5:30 pm Oreiro was, along with director and Lorena Muñoz and actor Lautaro Delgado, guest of live broadcast of TV channel Canal 7. “The first scene we shot for the film was the scene of casting of Gilda to be a singer in the choir. And this is a very important scene, and always when I start filming a new movie, or when I’m on a tour, I am nervous and I told the director that I would like to first shoot a scene that is not so crucial for the story. But Lorena answered that the nervousness that I feel surely must have felt also Gilda when she had to audition and Lorena wanted to use that emotion in the movie and I think you can feel it in my performance,” said Oreiro.
On Saturday, September 10, 2016 there was broadcasted on TV station Telefé program called Especial Gilda ‘Entre el cielo y la tierra’, which was entirely dedicated to the late singer. The program was filmed on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 and there are for example, Natalia Oreiro, Lorena Muñoz, Axel Kuschevatzky and original band members of Gilda. In the program, guests were talking about the life of Gilda, her career and her privacy, but also about her tragic death. About the participation of the true members of the band in the movie Oreiro said: “Originally, with Lorena we met the musicians of Gilda to get the details of her life, but during the interviews we thought it would be great if in the film they would portray themselves.” During the show there were also unpublished scenes from the film shown. Television station Telefé also started from the weekend to broadcast short commercials for the film and its upcoming premiere.
On Sunday, September 11, 2016 an article with Natalia Oreiro in the newspaper Perfil was published. “I know it's highly anticipated film, of course I want people to enjoy the movie and like it, but more importantly for me was that I remained faithful to the story of Gilda. In many ways what happened to Gilda can be close to many of us, not only for me as an actress but also for me as a woman,” she said in an interview.
On Monday, September 12, 2016 in the morning actress Natalia Oreiro and director Lorena Muñoz flew in the city of Rosario in Santa Fe province, which is the third largest city of Argentina. And I told her, ‘I’m Gilda!’, which started our collaboration on this film,” says Oreiro for television Rosario 3: “I am very excited about the first critics that were written but mostly I care what the audience will say. And I am glad that during the film they forget that I portray Gilda, that they will see her story, see Gilda and not an actress who plays her.”

In hotel Sheraton Oreiro had a photoshoot for local newspaper La Voz, which was published the next day. In an interview with the newspaper she says: “I think it is good that it took so long before we got the rights to make the film, because before I was not ready for the role, neither as an actress nor physically because I had only become a mother, and now I personally understand many moments that Gilda had to endure,” she says and continues: “Now the planets aligned, exactly 20 years after her death, and we could make the film.” That evening there was a meeting with local media, which Oreiro and Muñoz attended and responded to many questions about the film. “Everyone tells me how I look like Gilda, but actually we don’t look alike,” laughs Oreiro in an interview with local television El Doce: “It was an amazing job of makeup artists, stylists, costume designers, working with light, working with movement and dancing moves in order to achieve the effect that in the movie I look like her.” At the end of a busy day both of them attended the pre-premiere of the movie in a local cinema.
On Tuesday, September 13, 2016 Natalia Oreiro and Lorena Muñoz were already back in Buenos Aires, and at 10 am they were hosts of live show Morfi on station Telefé. “The movie is very emotional, it is not possible to see the film and not being moved by it, because yes, it’s a movie with actors, but it is based on a true story that took place and has a lot of truth,” says Oreiro. On Wednesday was also published a new interview with the director and the actress in the national newspaper Clarín. “I never thought about another actress to portray Gilda, I had always only Naty in mind,” says Muñoz and adds: “Gilda was very creative, she wrote her own songs, she made her own costumes and she had her own style. This is a lot like Natalia, and the audience certainly will appreciate this authenticity.” Oreiro said: “The fact that I am now a mother helped me a lot during the shooting. We filmed eight weeks, half of which was a night shooting. In the film there is a moment when Gilda suffers a lot because she is working through the night, and he same thing happened to me. In the film, there are a lot of moments, which many of us will identify with.”
On Wednesday, September 14, 2016 there were published two new interviews with Natalia Oreiro that were taken on September 8, 2016 during a meeting with the media, for the newspaper La Nación and Página 12. “I had to stop being a fan of Gilda so I could transform into this role of a woman, with all her contradictions, I could not see only the good but also the bad, so we could achieve a comprehensive story,” says for Página 12 and she spoke also about the collaboration with her husband, musician Ricardo Mollo on the film: “Ricardo was always visiting me at shooting and one day Lorena asked him if he wanted to play in a film a small role of a musician and because Ricardo is very funny, he agreed. Ricardo also plays a guitar in the Spanish version of the song from the band Beach Boys, and which appears in the film’s end credits. He helped me even while recording the CD for the film and together we produced a duet with Ruben Rada. Moreover, he taught me to play a guitar for several sequences of the film where Gilda is composing her music.”
