LA NOCHE MÁGICA (Magical Night) is an Argentine black comedy filmed in September and October 2019 in Buenos Aires. The film is directed by Argentinian director Gastón Portal, who also wrote the screenplay in collaboration with author Javier Castro Albano.
The movie is in production or Argentinian companies Viacom, Aeroplano, DirectTV a Disney. And in co-production of Uruguayan company World Media.

It’s Christmas Eve, and in a luxury home in San Isidro neighborhood, Kira (Natalia Oreiro) and her lover Cachete (Pablo Rago) are together in the bedroom when they suddenly hear car of Juan (Esteban Bigliardi), Kira’s husband, who unexpectedly returns home. When Cachete quickly hides on the balcony, he encounters something worse than his lover’s husband; Nicola (Diego Peretti), an armed thief who came to rob the house and who is dressed just like Santa Claus; he has white beard and a red hat.
Nicola threatens everyone with a weapon in his hand, but the robbery becomes even more complicated when he meets Alicia (Isabel Palopoli), daughter of the married couple who confuses him for true Santa Claus and asks him to fulfill her Christmas wishes…

2.1 Production Development
The very first mention of planned film titled La Noche Mágica (Magical Night) was posted on Twitter by director Gastón Portal, where he wrote on July 4, 2019 that the shooting of the film will begin in August and that the lead male actor is Diego Peretti. He wrote: "Can you imagine Papa Noel (note: Latin American version of Santa Claus) being a thief?"
A week later, on July 14, 2019, actor Diego Peretti spoke in an interview with La Gaceta, where he said, "Soon I will start shooting psychological thriller with director Gastón Portal and with actress Natalia Oreiro." It was mentioned for the very first time that successful Uruguayan actress Natalia Oreiro will have a leading female role in the film. It was also announced that actors started rehearsing their roles and that the shooting will start in August.
Natalia Oreiro herself confirmed her participation in an interview with Infobae in late July: "I will be making my fourth film with Diego Peretti (note: Oreiro and Peretti stared together in movies Música en Espera, Wakolda and Re Loca) with whom we are great friends."
On Monday, August 5, 2019, Natalia Oreiro posted a photo and video from a hair salon on her social network vk.com where hairdresser Sergio Lamensa created a new hairstyle for her movie role.
That same week, on Thursday, August 8, 2019, server LaUbfal published more information about film La Noche Mágica. The film should start filming on Monday, August 26, 2019 with a premiere scheduled for 2020. Also, a short movie content and a teaser poster were published. Another talent was attached to the film: Argentinian actor Esteban Bigliardi will portray the role of Juan, husband of Oreiro’s character.

2.2 Filming
Filming of La Noche Mágica by Argentinian director Gastón Portal took place in Buenos Aires for five weeks, from Monday 2nd September 2019 to Friday 4th October 2019.
The first scenes were filmed with Diego Peretti, the lead actor. One day later, actor Pablo Rago joined the team by filming his night scenes. Actress Natalia Oreiro filmed her first scenes for the movie on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. She also filmed several night scenes.
During the filming, the main actors and the director of the film gave an interview for magazine Gente, where they talked about their roles and the ongoing shooting of La Noche Mágica. “Today all my scenes take place in one room,” says Natalia Oreiro about the psychological thriller: “When Gastón Portal gave me the movie script, the story was immediately appealing to me. The characters of the film experience claustrophobic moments and cannot escape them, which reminded me of film El ángel exterminador by Buñuel. It is a story full of tension, panic, fear, but also humor, which in this combination represents a very interesting concept. I have to admit that we are on a daily roller coaster with the director. I like everything under control, but he changes the script every day,” she laughs. She said about her character: “I play mother of a six-year-old girl who is not happy with her life. She is very cold, calculating, and she is asking the universe to change her life… I don't want to give too many details, but I can only say that at the end she becomes changed person full of maternal love.”
Actor Pablo Rago said: "I play Cachete, the best friend of the house owner (Bigliardi) and also his wife's lover (Oreiro), but the director says he is in love with both of them." Rago joined the cast only one-week prior start of the filming: “Director Gastón told me about my character in a bar, and the role was very interesting for me.” Actor Diego Peretti said: “One day Natalia called me and told me about a role that I might like. The story is about a thief wearing red clothes that makes Natalia’s movie daughter mistake him for Papa Noel. And I like to portray Papa Noel, but a dark version of him, almost like by Tim Burton.”
Director Gastón Portal said in the interview: “With this film I can show all the monsters I have in me. The film is shot in Italian post-neorealism style, an ideal setting for Natalia and Diego, who are both great in comedies and dramas.”

The last filming day of the film La Noche Mágica took place on Friday, October 4, 2019. The premiere was preliminarily announced for early 2020.
Director Gastón Portal filmed additional scene for the opening of the movie in Buenos Aires on Monday, December 23, 2019. The scene was not shot with any actors, but only with a wooden horse. The director explained: "We're filming opening credits with burning Trojan horse."
2.3 Post-Production
The first trailer for La Noche Mágica was released on Monday, March 9, 2020. Along with the trailer, three short videos featuring the main characters starring Natalia Oreiro, Diego Peretti and Esteban Bigliardi were also released. The official film poster was also presented on the same day.
The film's premiere date was originally set for April 9, 2020. Unfortunately, following the global pandemic and the spread of Covid-19, La Noche Mágica's premiere was postponed to May 21, 2020.
