MISS TACUAREMBÓ is comedy drama musical movie that was filmed from March 8th to April 10th 2010 in towns of Uruguay (Santa Rosa, Atlántida, Canelones, Montevideo and Tacuarembó) and Argentina (Buenos Aires and Luján), while the last scenes for the movie were filmed from May 26th till 29th 2010 in Los Angeles, USA. The movie is an adaptation of novel written by Uruguayan artist Dani Umpi with the same title; however, some book concepts are changed for this movie adaptation. Uruguayan artist Martín Sastre, who also wrote movie script, directs the movie. For Sastre it is his first feature film of career.
The movie is in co-production of Uruguay, Spain and Argentina. The Uruguayan part of production is formed by Oriental Films (40%); the Spanish one is by Cool Shot Films (20%) and Argentine one is by companies TeLeFe Cine and Royal Cinema Group (40%). The movie is also supported by Uruguayan governmental film organization Fondo Nacional de Audiovisuales (FONA). Movie’s budget was 1.6 million dollars (1.2 million Euro). The movie was filmed by Argentine filming company Steadifilm.
Famous Uruguayan actress and singer Natalia Oreiro appears in the movie in two leading contrast roles, as protagonist Natalia and as her antagonist Cándida López. The winner of on-line casting Sofía Silvera portrays small Natalia. In supporting roles there are famous Spanish actors Rossy de Palma and Alejandro Tous, Argentine actors Mike Amigorena, Graciela Borges and Diego Reinhold or Uruguayan actress Mirella Pascual.
Movie’s world premiere took place on July 1st 2010 in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the movie topped the box office immediately and was the most seen national movie of year 2010. In Argentina the premiere was on July 15th 2010 in Buenos Aires. Spanish premiere was held in Madrid on May 13th 2011. Buena Vista Internacional distributes the movie for Argentine and Uruguayan cinemas. In Spain, Yedra Films distributed the movie. French company Rendez-vous Pictures distributes the movie on the international level. In Uruguay and Argentina altogether with movie’s premiere there was also movie’s original score published. The soundtrack contains 9 songs and was published by Pelo Music in July 2010. Movie’s original score was also published in Spain; this was in May 2011 by Warner Music.
The movie was also presented at the international film festival 25° Festival International de Films de Fribourg in Switzerland and at Festival de Málaga de Cine Espanol in Spain. Moreover, the movie took part at film festivals in Sweden, France, USA, Canada, Italy, Ireland and South Korea throughout 2011 and 2012.
In Argentina movie Miss Tacuarembó was nominated for three awards Premios Sur 2010 given by Argentine cinema academy. In Argentina, moreover, the movie received seven prestigious nominations for awards Premios Cóndor de Plata 2010. In Uruguay in December 2010 the movie received five nominations (Natalia Oreiro received nomination as ‘Mejor Actriz‘) from Uruguayan cinema academy. Actress Natalia Oreiro was awarded by IRIS 2011 as the best actress of Uruguay of 2010 for her movie’s double role. In Spain the movie received two prestigious awards Biznaga de Plata for the best script and the best movie at the Festival de Málaga de Cine Espanol in section Zonazine.

1. Movie information

1.1 Based on
Novel Miss Tacuarembó is a second novel written by Uruguayan artist Daniel Umpiérrez, who uses artistic name Dani Umpi. Publishing company Interzona published the book in December 2004 in Argentina. The novel is written in Spanish and has 204 pages in total. The book has received very positive critics. In 2010 there was a re-edition published altogether with movie’s Miss Tacuarembó premiere in Uruguay and Argentina.
In the novel there are three main story lines that intervene with each other; relationship of main character Natalia and her gay friend Carlos; relationship of Natalia and her mother who comes for a visit; and Natalia’s dream to become famous and be awarded by title ‘Miss Tacuarembó‘.
The whole book is a story of door-to-door perfume salesgirl called Natalia who lives with her gay friend Carlos. One day, Natalia’s mother enters their lives and changes everything. Natalia was not in touch with her mother for longer period of time and they got together in a TV show and decided to live together. Natalia is doing great in her job; however, she still keeps on dreaming to be famous and successful and to work for television.

1.2 Plot
Natalia (Sofía Silvera) is a girl growing up in 80’s under the influence of movie Flashdance and telenovela Cristal, in small and remote town Tacuarembó in North of Uruguay. Her one and only friend is Carlos (Mateo Capo), with whom they dance and create choreographies. Together they also have to face strict and catholic teacher of local children’s choir Cándida López (Natalia Oreiro) and her two daughters, twins Maria Noel (Ema Pratto) and Maria José (María Pía Pratto). Natalia thinks that the only way how to get out of this boring small town is to win a title Miss Tacuarembó when she is eighteen years old. The title would allow her to travel to big city and to become a star of first class. However, reality is very different from dreams. Now Natalia (Natalia Oreiro) and Carlos (Diego Reinhold) are working as guides and entertainers in touristic park dedicated to Bible called Cristo Park in Buenos Aires. One day, Natalia is confronted by TV reality show Todo Por un Sueno, whose host Patricia Peinado (Rossy de Palma) is trying to fulfill dreams of contestants. One of the contestants is also Natalia’s mother Haydée (Mirella Pascual), whose dream is to find her daughter who she has not seen for ten years.
However, whom she finds is completely different Natalia; grown-up girl that is very far away from her child’s dream that one day the world will be hers…

For Natalia Oreiro this movie is already her fifth with leading character. However, it is the first movie where she portrays central character of the movie as well as her first movie to play two contrary characters. Overall Miss Tacuarembó is for Oreiro seventh full-length movie of her career.
Rossy de Palma, famous from Pedro Almodovar’s movies, is also part of the cast, as well as Jeannette Rodriguez who is famous from telenovela Cristal. In leading male characters there are Diego Reinhold, Boris Bakst and Mike Amigorena.

1.4 Main characters

Natalia – she grew up in 80’s in small town Tacuarembó dreaming of fame. However, now her reality is far away from her dreams of becoming a star…

Carlos – already since childhood he is Natalia’s best friend, who followed her to Buenos Aires. There they work as entertainers in theme park dedicated to Bible.

2. Production

2.1 Pre-production
2.1.1 2004-2008
The idea to make a movie based on the novel came when the novel was not even published yet. When the novel was released in 2004 the vision of movie became clearer. Artist Martín Sastre started to work with the idea and wrote the movie’s script.
It was in January 2005 when there were first connections between the movie and actress Natalia Oreiro in media. Oreiro herself said in an interview in early 2007 that she is reading the script for the movie. In an interview from April 29th 2007 for newspaper Clarín, Oreiro said: “The movie is in Spanish co-production and the script is based on the novel by Dani Umpi and made for cinema by Martín Sastre. I was offered to play the main character. I guess I am ready for that!“
In July 2008, in media there started to appear more specific information about the movie; such as filming locations or production team. It was said that the movie should be filmed by the end of 2009 during five weeks in locations of towns Tacuarembó and Montevideo in Uruguay and also in Buenos Aires in Argentina. There should also appear local actors in the movie.

2.1.2 2009
In an interview for newspaper Clarín from February 15th 2009 actress and singer Natalia Oreiro also mentioned movie Miss Tacuarembó as her future project: “I have in my plans to film movie Miss Tacuarembó by Dani Umpi, it is a very sexy story!”
On April 2nd 2009 Uruguayan newspaper El País published information that movie Miss Tacuarembó would be officially presented for the first time during a press conference at the International Film Festival Punta del Este held in Uruguay from April 18th 2009. Moreover, it was announced that actresses Natalia Oreiro and Rossy de Palma should be present at the conference. The movie is under production of Oriental Films with director Martín Sastre and set to be filmed in 2009.
The press conference took place on April 24th 2009 at 11am in hotel Mantra. Natalia Oreiro and Martín Sastre were present at the conference together with musician Alejandro Sergi, actress Mirella Pascual and members of production team. During the press conference Oreiro said: “The movie is my personal challenge. People will love or hate it because everyone has his own style. My character is very challenging because I am not only going to act but I am also going to be singing and dancing.“

Moreover, Martín Sastre told media how the cooperation with Natalia Oreiro has started. „Dani and I met Natalia at her birthday party and we gave her a copy of the book that was not even published yet and I told her that I will make a movie out of it and she will be the one to star in it. She called me some time later and said: ‘Hi, I am Natalia Oreiro. I don’t know if you remember me…I read the book and I want to make a movie!’ And that is how it has all started.” He also added to the movie plot: “The movie shows contrast between Natalia’s ideals as a young girl of being voted the most beautiful girl and becoming famous, and Natalia’s present life in Buenos Aires where she works as a guide in a Fun Park.” It was also announced that in the movie will not only star Rossy de Palma (who was present at the conference via tele-bridge) but also famous actress Jeannette Rodriguez who is mostly known for her role in telenovela Cristal from 1985. Uruguayan actress Mirella Pascual will portray Natalia’s mother Haydée in the movie. Musician Alejandro Sergi will compose movie’s original music. At the conference he said: “I am very happy with the cooperation and it is also a challenge, every song will be related to some character. The movie is something like a musical just there is no dancing and singing for the whole time.“
In interview for magazine Gente from 9th of September 2009 actress Natalia Oreiro also talked about upcoming role in Miss Tacuarembó. „Now I am working on project that I am very proud of. In January we will start to film Miss Tacuarembó that will be directed by Martín Sastre, there will also be Rossy de Palma! The movie is in co-production of Uruguay and Spain and is based on book by Dani Umpi. And I portray a girl who wants to become an icon!“

2.1.3 2010
Casting for role of child version of Natalia was announced in early January 2010. The casting is quite unique because it completely takes place on-line, via movie’s official website www.misstacuarembo.com that was launched especially for the casting together with its announcement. Girls of age 8 to 12 could participate in the casting and sent a video that would be published on the website for public votes.
Starting on February 1st 2010, voting for the most favorite girl started. There were altogether more than 700 girls that participated in the casting. Besides on-line voting there were also three additional judges: Natalia Oreiro, leading movie protagonist; Martín Sastre, movie director; and Ale Sergi, movie’s music composer.
On February 10th 2010 it was announced that from more than 800 girls, who all participated in the on-line casting, there was a selection of 20 made. These girls took part in second round of casting that was being decided by the judges. This second round took place on February 9th 2010 and there were 5 girls who made it to the third and final round.
The last round took place on February 13th 2009 when the winner was announced. Martín Sastre added that all of the participants are actually winners and that names of all of the girls participating in the casting will be used for the final movie credits. The winner of the on-line casting for role of little Natalia was 9 years old Sofía Silvera from Palmitas, Uruguay. Sofía received in the on-line voting more than 60.000 votes. “We wanted to find a girl that could dance and act well but also we wanted to find a girl who dreamed of being famous. With Sofía we succeeded!” said Sastre.
Argentine actor Mike Amigorena said in an interview for Canal 26 on January 21st 2010 that he would take part in Miss Tacuarembó movie. Moreover, on February 7th 2010, it was further rumored that Amigorena would portray partner of Natalia Oreiro’s character in the movie, but finally he portrayed a role of Christ. Several days later it was announced that Spanish actor Alejandro Tous would portray role of Father Clever.
At the information server El Contraanálisis del Espectáculo there were new information released on February 11th 2010. The movie should be filmed from March 2010 in Uruguay. Companies TeLeFe Cine and Royal Cinema Group under lead of producer Carlos Mentasti form Argentine part of co-production. Another information is that new additional cast member is Argentine actor Diego Reinhold. He would portray in the movie Natalia’s best friend Carlos in his adult version.
On February 16th 2010 it was announced by Venezuelan newspaper El Universal that telenovela star of 80’s Jeannette Rodriguez denied her participation in movie Miss Tacuarembó. Actress, who lives in Madrid now, said: “No, these news about my participation are false. I do not know their source. It is already some time ago they started to appear but I have no official information from my manager.” Only one day later, movie’s production company stated through their producer Maria Zanocchi that there is on-going negotiation with manager of Rodriguez regarding her participation. It was said that her participation seems feasible.

On February 17th 2010 article about actress Rossy de Palma was published by Spanish newspaper from Mallorca Diariode Mallorca. De Palma confirmed her movie’s participation next month. It was also announced that by own words of movie’s director Martín Sastre the movie ‘is the very first Latin American musical comedy’.
On February 23rd 2010 new information regarding movies title was released. According to new rumors, the movie’s titles was changed to Miss, puedes sonarlo, puedes hacerlo, but this change was, however, never confirmed and the movie was released under its original title Miss Tacuarembó. It was, moreover, announced that young Argentine actor Boris Bakst won casting for leading male character. He would portray partner to Natalia Oreiro’s character in the movie.
On Friday February 26th 2010 it was announced that production team of the movie Miss Tacuarembó has selected filming locations in Uruguayan town of Santa Rosa, concretely local church and city square because they look like those in real town of Tacuarembó. Actress Natalia Oreiro was also present during the location scouting in Uruguay. It was also announced that in local casting for extra roles in the movie more than hundred people participated.
Server LaUbfal announced on February 27th 2010 that the title of the movie Miss Tacuarembó is unchanged and that movie’s premiere should take place already on August 5th 2010 in both Uruguay and Argentina.
On March 3rd 2010 it was announced that in role of mother to Natalie Oreiro’s character is Argentine star Graciela Borges. Borges said about her special participation in the movie: “It is not even special participation, I don’t do special participations, but it is a gift to Natalia Oreiro who I admire a lot!”

2.2 Filming
The beginning of filming of Miss Tacuarembó was planned for March 1st 2010. However, due to heavy rains that affected both Uruguay and Argentina, filming had to be moved. In the end, filming started on Monday March 8th 2010.
The first filming day was on March 8th 2010 in town Santa Rosa in Uruguayan province Canelones. Town Santa Rosa was chosen because there are several places very similar to those in Tacuarembó. The first filming day took place in one local house, where scenes of main protagonist Natalia at the age of 8 were filmed. The house is situated in the Mevir I neighborhood and was fully equipped for the time in which the movie is based on, 80’s of the last century. The house was painted pink from the outside and blue from the inside, exactly as according to the novel the movie is based on. Star Natalia Oreiro was very expected and her first filming day ended at midnight, but she still found time to greet locals. During the first days there were also filmed scenes with young actors Sofía Silvera and Mateo Capo, who portrayed Carlos, best friend of Natalia.
Second filming day, Tuesday March 9th 2010, filming team moved to local church, which is situated on the other side of the town. There the filming took place till 11pm. In these scenes there are also actors Alejandro Tous, Mónica Villa and Mirella Pascual. During the first filming days Natalia Oreiro portrayed three different roles - role of a teenager, adult Natalia and older woman, for whose portrayal Oreiro had preparation for seven hours of make-up, she had to wear a wig and false nose. Oreiro said for magazine Pronto about on-going filming: “It’s very demanding, because I act, sing and dance.”
After all scenes in town Santa Rosa were filmed, the filming team moved to farm near town Atlántida, where young actors Sofía Silvera and Mateo Capo filmed together with actress Leonor Courtoise musical scene for the movie. Choreographer and actor Diego Reinhold said about scene, where the nun helps children set doves, rabbits and fishes free at the farm: “My choreographies must have comedic touch and they need to flow with the movie. This scene will be magical, where animals talk, where there are catholic icons, where the nun sings about faith and walks on water, or magically transforms bugs into magical lights!” After first filming week was concluded, filming team moved to Montevideo.

On March 12th 2010 it was officially confirmed that Argentine actor Mike Amigorena will be in the movie in role of Christ. “I called Mike myself,” said Natalia Oreiro in an interview for newspaper La Nación: “The thing is that Natalia from Tacuarembó is in love with Christ and she thinks that if she looks in his eyes and wishes for something, it would come true!”
On March 15th 2010 Spanish actress Rossy de Palma flew to Uruguay to portray her role of Patricia Peinado, who is a host of reality show, where Natalia tries to fulfill her dream. First scenes with De Palma were filmed in Montevideo in studios of TV station Canal 10, where complete interior of reality show ‘Todo por un sueno‘ was created.
In the second filming week, from March 18th till 20th 2010, each evening of those days, scenes in Parque Rodó in Montevideo were filmed. The scenes were of Natalia Oreiro and Rossy de Palma in reality show ‘Todo por un sueno‘, where Natalia came with hope to become famous. Argentine newspaper La Nación from March 21st 2010 wrote more about this filming. The reality show ‘Todo por un sueno‘ is some kind of ‘American Idol‘, where participants desire to become famous. However, for leading protagonist Natalia her participation would become a nightmare. Oreiro also gave an interview during filming where she revealed her two distinct characters in the movie. The first one Natalia is known, yet the second one is called Cándida López, music teacher. “Apart from Natalia I am also a music teacher, very mean one. I told Martín (Sastre) that I want to be her too. ‘My real challenge is to be Cándida López‘ I told him and I persuaded him,” said Oreiro and added: “For my mask of Cándida I worked with make-up artist Alexander Matthews, with speech professor we trained distinct voice and also with acting coach Valeria Lorca we trained new movements, this all two months prior to filming. Our children protagonists didn’t know at first that Cándida was I, we even told them my name was Zulema Igleasias,“ laughs Oreiro: “Song for character Cándida was written by my husband Ricardo Mollo and is in rock style of Marilyn Manson, it had to be rock song because in the movie she is the bad one!“
Rossy de Palma said for magazine Pronto about her co-star Natalia Oreiro: “Naty is beautiful woman, and she is very charismatic.” She said about her movie character: “She is a host of reality show where Natalia comes to fulfill her dream to triumph in the show-business. She is a journalist and TV host and she lives for sensations, she only wants to see participants suffer to keep her audience interested.” On Sunday March 21st 2012 actress De Palma returned back to Paris, where she lives now, after she completed all her movie scenes. In total she had three filming days in Uruguay.
In the third filming week, in the night from March 23rd to March 24th 2010, scenes with actors Mike Amigorena and Natalia Oreiro were filmed. Amigorena said in an interview from March 24th 2010 for Teledoce: “My character is Jesus. Natalia’s character is in love with Jesus her whole life and in one moment he appears in front of her and we sing and dance. It is amazing! Natalia is great in her double roles. She is also Cándida, she is just amazing…”

In the night of March 25th 2010 scenes in the cemetery of town Canelones were filmed. This cemetery became filming scene for the first time in its history and the movie production has selected the cemetery from fifteen candidates, among those also cemetery of Montevideo. Filming has started at 6pm and fans of actress Natalia Oreiro watching the filming quickly surrounded the cemetery. Prior to filming Oreiro spent more than six hours in make-up room preparing for her Cándida López character. The filming lasted till early morning hours. One day later, on Friday March 26th 2010, in the afternoon Oreiro came to cemetery of Canelones again, this time to receive honorary award ‘Amiga de Canelones‘ for her artistic recognition. The award she received from town mayor Estanislao Chiazzaro. “We would like to thank Natalia for her artistic work, which goes beyond borders of Uruguay as well as Rio de la Plata,” said the mayor. Oreiro was very pleased to receive this award and admitted that she has never received such award.
When filming in town Canelones was concluded, filming team of Miss Tacuarembó moved on March 28th 2010 finally to the town that gave name to this movie of director Martín Sastre, Tacuarembó. Filming was already in its fourth week. In town Tacuarembó filming started on Monday March 29th 2010 and filming continued till Thursday April 1st 2010. On Tuesday March 30th 2010 filming started very early and was done by famous town’s monuments ‘El Hongo‘ and ‘El Mundo‘.Natalia Oreiro filmed her scenes together with Diego Reinhold, who portrays Natalia’s longtime friend Carlos in his adult version. In town Tacuarembó also young actors Sofía Silvera and Mateo Capo, portraying young Natalia and Carlos, filmed their scenes. On Wednesday March 31st 2010 scenes on the street Zelmar Michelini were filmed. Oreiro left Tacuarembó as soon as all her scenes were concluded and she went to her house in Carmelo, where she spent few days with her husband before filming continued in Montevideo.

Uruguayan newspaper El País from April 5th 2010 announced that Venezuelan actress Jeannette Rodríguez, famous for her telenovela role Cristal, arrived to Montevideo on Wednesday March 31st 2010 to film her special participation in movie Miss Tacuarembó. Rodríguez said after her arrival: “Uruguay fascinates me, I love this place and I am surprised I haven’t come here sooner. I have a special participation in the movie. I portray my famous character Cristal. I am thrilled from this participation because this character is seen here as an idol Natalia remembers and that is something I am very happy for. This movie has very fresh story, very familiar, that leaves a message that we should never stop fighting for our dreams.”
It was announced on April 3rd 2010 that filming of all scenes in Montevideo with special participations of actresses Graciela Borges and Jeannette Rodríguez in scenes of competition for title ‘Miss Tacuarembó‘ was concluded. Filming of movie Miss Tacuarembó was thus successfully concluded in Uruguay. From Monday 5th 2010 filming was set to continue in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and surrounding areas. Moreover, it was announced that on Saturday 10th 2010 at 9pm press conference would take place in hotel Sheraton in Buenos Aires as well as party to celebrate end of filming.
The very last fifth filming week took place in Argentina in Buenos Aires where in hotel Sheraton casting scenes to reality show ‘Todo por un sueno‘ were filmed. Furthermore, filming continued in town Luján where scenes from imaginary Cristo Park were filmed. Town Luján was selected for its amusement park ArgenPark, which for filming from Tuesday April 6th 2010 till Friday 9th 2010 transformed into Cristo Park, where characters of actors Natalia Oreiro and Diego Reinhold work. Also on March 30th 2010, prior to filming, casting for extra roles in the movie took place in Luján. In the amusement park also grand musical scene of the movie was filmed.
Last filming day was on April 10th 2010 in Buenos Aires. On Saturday 10th of April 2010 there was a press conference to announce the end of filming. The event took place in hotel Sheraton in Buenos Aires. At the press conference were present actors Natalia Oreiro, Mike Amigorena, Boris Bakst, Diego Reinhold, movie director Martín Sastre and music composer Ale Sergi. During the conference it was announced that the movie should premiere on July 8th 2010. The movie should last approximately 90 minutes. Moreover, Oreiro said in interviews that in the movie there should be 11 songs. One song was also written for the movie by her husband Ricardo Mollo, the song is in rock style. Oreiro also sings a version of song What a Feeling from movie Flashdance as well as song Mi Vida Eres Tu from famous telenovela Cristal. “I am very proud of Miss Tacuarembó and I will not rest till everyone will see that this movie is the best,” laughed Natalia. “Little girl who portrays my character in her young years is amazing actress, she acts just like me. I cannot wait for the final result,” adds Oreiro. “It is my first work on feature film and I want to show that nothing is challenge for me,” said director Sastre. “The book this movie is based on is a treasure, it is already few years we started to talk about this project, but what happened during filming was just magical. Don’t ask me how, but the movie has its own magic,” adds Oreiro. After the conference, there was a grand party to celebrate end of filming in restaurant ChiCha with presence of all main protagonists.

Despite the fact that filming was concluded in April 2010 in Argentina, the very last scene from the movie was filmed in Los Angeles, USA, in May 2010. Natalia Oreiro and the filming crew went to Los Angeles on May 25th to film the last scene. “Yes, we are flying to Los Angeles to film one very important movie scene,” said Oreiro at Argentine airport Ezeiza. “Movie premiere is already in July!”
The original plan was to stay in Los Angeles for two days, however, the team had to stay there till 30th of May 2010 due to rains that were in California at that time. The scene was filmed at the famous hill with Hollywood sign.

2.3 Post-production
Just few days after filming was concluded, there was an interview with actress Natalia Oreiro and director Martín Sastre published by Argentine magazine Viva on April 25th 2010. “I also met up with Spanish producer who offered me a lot of money to make this movie, yet his condition was to make the movie with Spanish actress, so I told him that the movie is either filmed with Oreiro or is not filmed at all!” Oreiro adds: “That was the reason why I got in touch with Argentine producer Carlos Mentasti (he produced movies ‘Un Argentino en New York’ and ‘Cleopatra’ with Oreiro in leading roles) and told him: ‘I have a project that you will love, but only with this director. I know it is his first movie but I just love his movie outlook and cinematography, Carlos, it would be first musical of Rio de la Plata!’”
On May 21st 2010 first poster for the movie was revealed. On the poster there is Natalia Oreiro altogether with Sofía Silvera because they both portray the same girl Natalia in two different movie time periods.
On June 5th 2010 the official trailer was released. There are two various versions of trailer. First one is for Argentina and Uruguay; the second one is for Spain. Public could thus see for the first time movie scenes as well as hear two song Natalia Oreiro sings in the movie, What a Feeling and El Perfume del Amor.

On June 6th 2010 Uruguayan newspaper El País brought new information concerning movie Miss Tacuarembó stating that premiere in Uruguay would be on July 1st 2010 and in Argentina on July 15th 2010. In September, moreover, should take place Spanish movie premiere, which by far depends on possible selection of the movie for film festival San Sebastian. It was also announced that the movie is in last stage of finalization, sound is being checked as well as other technical parameters. The world premiere should be attended by leading protagonist Natalia Oreiro, music composer Ale Sergi as well as Ricardo Mollo, who wrote one rock song for the movie. Producers are also waiting for confirmation of Spanish star Rossy de Palma and Venezuelan star Jeannette Rodriguez to attend the premiere. Of course there should be also child protagonists Sofia Silvera, Mateo Capo and twins Ema and María Pía Prato. Also producers are working on including all the names of girls who participated in the on-line casting into final movie titles.

3. Release

3.1 Cinema Release
3.1.1 Uruguay (World Premiere)
It was announced in June 2010 that the world premiere of movie Miss Tacuarembó would take place in Montevideo on July 1st 2010. Premiere in Argentina would take place on July 15th 2010 while the premiere in Spain would happen in September 2010.
On Tuesday 29th of June 2010 Natalia Oreiro arrived to Montevideo, Uruguay, to start promotional tour before the official premiere of movie Miss Tacuarembó. She met up with director Martín Sastre in hotel Sheraton for media meeting. Oreiro gave two TV interviews, first for Canal 10 and second for Canal 12, where she talked about her character and filming. “Miss Tacuarembó could be musical comedy, could be romantic comedy, could be pop comedy, it could be a video-clip…it is a movie mixing many genres together. The movie is quite rebellious, as am I and the director,” laughs Oreiro in interview for Canal 10 and adds: “But there are also deeper themes in the movie such as being accepted by the society that can discriminate you, because my character and character of Carlos are for different reasons discriminated by the society for who they are.” In interview for TV station Canal 12 Oreiro said: “It is a distinct movie that is yet very funny and friendly. It is musical pop comedy!” Altogether with director Sastre they gave an interview for Uruguayan newspaper El País, which published the interview just one day later on June 30th 2010. “When I started to think of this movie project for the first time, it was very unrealistic. But more I got into the story more I started to be attached to it personally and I just had to make movie out of it,” remembers Sastre and Oreiro adds: “I have always looked for projects where I wouldn’t repeat myself in acting and with Miss Tacuarembó I was very successful!“

Moreover, the same day at the press meeting Oreiro gave interviews for magazines Caras and Sala de Espera and also for newspaper El Observador, which was published on July 3rd 2010. “Martín Sastre is very intelligent person, he knows how to listen to his actors, which really helped our movie. The whole process was also helped by filming crew, art director and production team, but in my case it was a bit different. I knew about this project for 10 years already and past five years we were in touch with Martín to form the project. In the movie I portray leading protagonist Natalia, but also I am evil teacher Cándida López. I wanted to portray Cándida, but any other director would tell me I was mad, that when portraying protagonist I couldn’t portray her antagonist. But not Martín, he fell in love with that idea,“ said Oreiro in interview with El Observador and added: “But character of Cándida never meets with adult character of Natalia.“ In an interview for magazine Caras she talked about her filming experience: “It is a movie where I put everything emotional and personal that I always wanted to get out. It really is a super production. Moreover, for me the movie is very personal because it was almost fully filmed in Uruguay. I dreamed about this movie for many years!” In an interview for magazine Sala de Espera, which was published on July 13th 2010, Oreiro talked about her return to singing: “The movie combines in very beautiful way acting and singing, such as many movies from fifties. I liked it very much, I wanted this movie to be distinct, but I am very aware that conservative people would not like it. Movie that everyone loves would be fantastic result, but it is not necessarily what I wish for.“
One day later, on Wednesday June 30th 2010, actress Natalia Oreiro, director Martín Sastre, and young actors Mateo Capo and Sofia Silvera were guests of live morning show Hola Vecinos at Uruguayan TV station Canal 10. “I chose this story because I feel close to it. And also it is the first movie I film in Uruguay. But it was a long process, for example the script is based on a book, but is not copying the book in all its aspects. Final script that we used in the end was already its twelfth version,” said Oreiro in the show: “It is a big movie, there are Uruguayan, Argentine and Spanish actors in it!” Little Sofia said about on-line casting: “I took part in the casting and in the end I was selected among first five. When I found out that I won the casting I was really happy!” Sastre said about filming in Uruguay: “I wanted to film the movie here, I live in Spain for ten years already but my first movie I have always wanted to film in my home Uruguay.“ Later the same day Oreiro and Sastre also gave live interview for radio Espectador. “The movie mixes what happens to protagonists now and in the past,” said director Sastre: “It is comedy but has also touch of drama and there are also thriller moments, too.” Oreiro said about child actors in the movie: “I don’t like to see children work, I would like to see children enjoying their childhood, to learn and play. So we always tried that Sofía and Mateo would take filming as a game. It was also important that their parents would be there with them. Sofía is very talented girl!”
Movie’s pre-premiere took place on June 30th 2010 in cinema MovieCenter Montevideo Shopping in Montevideo. Natalia Oreiro was the main star of the event and Martín Sastre, Diego Reinhold, Valeria Lorca, Ricardo Mollo, Sofía Silvera, Boris Bakst, Graciela Borges, Dani Umpi and many other celebrities accompanied her. “I am very happy with the result, but at the same time quite nervous about how audience will take the movie,” said Oreiro in an interview at the premiere. “In the movie it is said that one day the world will be ours, that day is today!” said Sastre before the movie was screened. After the premiere party for actors and producers in club Locus took place.

On July 1st 2010 actress Natalia Oreiro was at 10.30am guest of morning live show Día Perfecto at Uruguayan TV station Canal 12, where she talked about her movie Miss Tacuarembó. “My mum couldn’t believe that Cándida was I, she couldn’t even recognize me,” laughs Oreiro: “I spent seven hours in make-up room every day in order to portray Cándida.“ Oreiro also talked about participation of actress Graciela Borges: “I called Graciela personally and told her about our story, it is a small role but is very important for the story. She agreed immediately. And not only that, she was in the movie for free and also took part at yesterday’s movie premiere.“ The same day Oreiro also took part in live interview at radio Oceano FM, where she talked about the movie.
Two days later, on Saturday July 3rd 2010, Natalia Oreiro, Martín Sastre and actress Mirella Pascual were guests of live show Puglia Invita on TV station Canal 10. „When actress of legendary Cristal, Jeannette Rodriguez, appeared on filming set, it was very emotional. My tears that audience will see in the movie are real,” said Oreiro. “For me it was absolutely beautiful to be in a movie with Natalia Oreiro,” said Pascual and added: “I portray Natalia’s mother.” Oreiro said about casting Argentine actor Mike Amigorena in the movie: “As it was with Graciela Borges, it was me who called Mike because we know each other. I told him about the movie and also about director’s vision. But Mike told me he couldn’t do the movie, as he was busy with theater, yet he still asked me about the role. I told him it would be role of Jesus. There was silence on the phone and then Mike told me: ‘I take it!’” laughs Oreiro. “I see Cándida as bitter evil woman who doesn’t like Natalia because Natalia is the one to follow her dream, and that is something Cándida could never do,” said Oreiro about her second movie character.
Natalia Oreiro is also featured in many Uruguayan magazines such as Espectacular, El Observador, Bla, Caras and Sala de Espera as part of movie promotion. For magazine Bla Oreiro also took exclusive photos. For the first time when public could see the movie was on July 1st 2010 in cinemas Moviecenter that are in Montevideo. The movie was shown from 11am six times a day. Movie critics were from the very beginning very positive. Uruguayan newspapers Busqueda wrote:

From July 2nd 2010 it was possible to see the movie in cinemas of Punta del Este, Tacuarembó, Minas, Young and Mercedes. From Sunday of July 4th 2010 the movie was shown in cinemas of Canalones and Paysandu. From Monday 5th 2010 it was towns of San Jose and Colonie. It was Wednesday 7th of July 2010 when the movie was shown in town Trinidat and on Thursday 8th of July 2010 it was Piroapolis. From Friday 9th of July 2010 the movie was further shown in Florida, Atlantida and Salto. Finally, from Saturday 10th of July 2010 the movie was shown in Nueva Helvecia.

From July 27th 2010 it was possible to buy in Uruguay movie score called Banda Sonora Original Miss Tacuarembó, which was already released in Argentina on July 22nd 2010. The CD looks exactly the same as Argentine one. On July 27th 2010 movie’s box office success was announced, movie Miss Tacuarembó was after its fourth screening weekend in Uruguay and was from July 22nd till 25th still screened in 9 halls of Uruguay and earned thus 23.488 dollars. The movie was on fifth position of Top 10 movies. Altogether the movie earned in Uruguay already 85.535 dollars.
After movie’s fourth screening week, from July 22nd to 28th 2010, it was announced that the movie was furthermore screened in five halls where on average each hall earned 3.462 dollars. Altogether the movie earned in its first month in cinemas, till July 31st 2010, already 92.874 American dollars.
In fifth screening week in Uruguay, from July 29th till August 4th 2010, the movie was still screened in three cinemas, which were in Montevideo and Punta del Este. In the end, in sixth and seventh screening week, exactly from August 5th till 18th 2010, movie Miss Tacuarembó was in Uruguay screened only in one cinema, which was MovieCenter in Montevideo. Moreover, on Saturday August 14th and on Sunday August 15th 2010 the movie was also screened in town Punta del Este in cinema Conrad Cinema. The movie was screened at 3pm.
On Thursday August 12th 2010 Uruguayan newspaper El País announced that movie creators face accusations of blasphemy from local church. This accusation was further passed over to governmental organization for family and life Asociación Familia y Vida, which was to decide if the movie violates Uruguayan code Article 149 of criminal law that deals with hate, contempt and violence against human race and religion. If the institution decides that the movie breaches the code, there would be further judicial trial. In the case of if the organization was to charge movie creators as guilty, they could face imprisonment from 6 to 24 months. In the end, the case was discharged as not guilty.
In eight screening week of movie Miss Tacuarembó, exactly from August 19th to August 25th 2010, the movie was still screened in one cinema MovieCenter in Montevideo. The movie was screened daily at 2.30pm. The following screening week, ninth week of August 26th till September 1st 2010, the movie was still screened in MovieCenter in Montevideo. This time the movie was shown at 2pm. After nine screening weeks, movie’s Miss Tacuarembó screening in Uruguay was successfully concluded.

At the premiere of movie Francia in Uruguay, actress Natalia Oreiro gave an interview to server Telemedios, which was published on September 19th 2010 and where she talked also about movie’s Miss Tacuarembó success. She answered the question of how would she evaluate movie’s reception and success: “The success is amazing, because the movie was a risky one, very distinct, and when you do a risky movie and people like it the success doubles, because in the end we more or less know what kind of movies people like to see and once you dare to make something different and people like it and it’s successful it is very pleasant result!”
On September 23rd 2010 it was announced that movie Miss Tacuarembó is one of the few movies nominated by organization Asoprod (Asociación de Productoras del Uruguay) for further selection of movies that would represent Uruguay at the foreign movie section of American awards Oscar (Academy Awards). But the movie was not selected in the end.
On December 8th 2010 nominations for Uruguayan movie awards handed out by Uruguayan movie academy Asociación de Críticos de Cine del Uruguay were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó received five prestigious nominations. For her role of Natalia actress Natalia Oreiro received nomination as ‘Mejor Actriz‘.Sofía Silvera was nominated as ‘Revelación Femenina‘, for new starting talents. Art director Pedro Luque received nomination in section ‘Mejor Fotografia‘, while his colleague Gonzalo Delgado received nomination in follow up section ‘Mejor Dirección Artistica‘ for movie’s visual look. For movie’s outstanding music composer Ignácio Peréz Marín was nominated for award ‘Mejor Música‘. The award ceremony took place on December 14th 2010 at 8.30pm in Montevideo’s theater Teatro Solís. Miss Tacuarembó in the end didn’t win any of the nominated awards.
On January 1st 2011 results of Uruguayan box office were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was the most seen national movie of year 2010, when in nine screening weeks the movie was seen by 30.508 cinemagoers and the movie managed to earn 102.697 American dollars. On Sunday January 16th 2011 an interview in Uruguayan newspaper El País with director Martín Sastre was published. “Now we focus with our team on presenting the movie in Spain in March. We also plan to present the movie later in Russia, Israel and the USA,” said Sastre about movie’s future. Moreover, the director confirmed information that the movie was the most successful national movie of the year.
On April 9th 2011 nominations for Uruguayan cinematographic awards IRIS 2011 were announced. Actress and singer Natalia Oreiro received nomination for award ‘Mejor Actor‘. The ceremony took place on May 30th 2011 in Montevideo. Oreiro came to the ceremony with her husband Ricardo Mollo and sister Adriana Oreiro, and in the end won the award. “I am extremely happy! It is a movie we filmed in Uruguay and I would like to dedicate this award also to Martín Sastre and Dani Umpi who made this movie! Moreover, I would like to thank everyone participating in the movie. I love you Uruguay!” said Oreiro who was very touched when receiving the award.

3.1.2 Argentina
Movie premiere in Argentina was planned for July 15th 2010. However, few days prior to the premiere promotional events took place. Actress Natalia Oreiro and her movie colleagues gave tons of interviews for TV stations, radios, newspapers and magazines.
Natalia Oreiro is on cover of many various July’s Argentine magazines such as Remix, Tendencia, Brando, Gente, 7Días and Luz. She also gave interviews to each of the magazines. “The movie talks about dreams but also about friendship and understanding, or as in some case about the lack of understanding. What happens to the main protagonist of the movie happened to some extent also to me and to many other people who when young dreamt of something and tried to achieve these dreams but the result is something different,” said Oreiro for 7Días. To some similarities between real life of Oreiro and fictional life of Natalia in the movie Oreiro said: “I asked to change the name of main protagonist but I got the most logical answer: Dani Umpi did not write this story thinking of you. So we just have the same name,” laughed Oreiro in interview for Luz magazine.

On Thursday July 8th 2010 press meeting of actors of Miss Tacuarembó and director Martína Sastre with Argentine media took place in hotel Four Seasons, where they could answer questions about movie and its development. Actors Natalia Oreiro, Mike Amigorena and Diego Reinhold were present and they gave interviews for newspapers Clarín, Perfil, Radar, Tiempo Argentino, Diario Uno, La Razón and Página 12, which were being published in next days.
The first interview was with Mike Amigorena and Natalia Oreiro for newspaper Clarín that was published on July 9th 2010. “Natalia called me and told me that she has a small role for me in a movie. I said I would take it without knowing what role it was. It was a bit later when Natalia told me it is a role of Jesus and suddenly I did not feel confident enough to do that. But I met with movie director Martín and we talked about the story and I fell in love with the project and I was happy to go to film in Uruguay,” said Amigorena about his involvement in the movie. “Filming was short but very vivid! He is a pop Jesus who wears suit, it is very ironic He meets with Natalia and tells her that she should not suffer for her dreams,” added Amigorena about his character. “Natalia has always seen Jesus only on cross but she has never talked to him or danced with him. Suddenly he appears to her and they sing together. Everything that Ale Sergi wrote in this song is amazing, for me it is the best song from the movie. Jesus is more human and also with sense for humor,” said Oreiro in the interview. Oreiro and Amigorena furthermore together gave an interview for newspaper Perfil that was published on July 10th 2010. „You cannot say no to project that is Miss Tacuarembó. I didn’t read the book, but I am very grateful for my role of Jesus, I wouldn’t want to portray the main protagonist,” said Amigorena.
Moreover, Natalia Oreiro and Martín Sastre gave an interview for magazine Radar that was published on Sunday 11th of July 2010 where they spoke about their movie. “Preparations for the film lasted five years and there were twelve scripts written. In the original scrip my character of Natalia worked in perfume store, but later we got an idea of Cristo Park, which is something like Coney Island, only in Catholic sense. It is independent film yet with great production. The original production was between Uruguay and Spain, later Argentina joined and this combination works perfectly!” Oreiro also gave interviews for newspapers Tiempo Argentino and Diario Uno, both published also on July 11th 2010. In an interview for Tiempo Argentino she said about filming as Cándida: “With production we decided not to tell the children that Cándida was I,” she jokes: “But I had to say it the third filming day because children were afraid of me. I talked like Cándida all the time and the director called me Zulema when he was directing me in some scenes. Children were running away from me and were complaining to the crew: ‘She is very mean…she touched me and she had such cold hands!’ In reality it was only subconscious of the children, because my hands are always the same. I felt bad, so the third day we told them, they couldn’t believe it,” she laughs. “People will be singing altogether with this movie,” said Oreiro for Diario Uno that is published in province of Mendoza. “This movie talks about dreams, friendships, commitments, society that eliminates whoever is different. The last part is very important and sensitive. It is very emotional movie that talks about faith and dreams,” Oreiro added.
An interview with Natalia Oreiro from the media meeting for magazine Página 12 was published on July 14th 2010. “For me the movie is not a musical. Music is very important for the movie, but the movie is not exactly how we know musicals where actors sing and dance the whole time. The music is part of the story without suppressing it,” said Oreiro. Last interview that Oreiro gave at the media meeting was for newspaper La Razón, which was published on July 15th 2010. “I found it interesting to portray two distinct roles in one movie. I said it to the director who was surprised at first but loved the idea ever since. Cándida is very pathetic,” she answered about her double movie roles.

On Sunday July 11th 2010 actress Natalia Oreiro was guest of live talk show Susana Giménez on Argentine TV station TeLeFe. In the show Oreiro also sang movie’s Miss Tacuarembó song called Mi Vida Eres Tú and also talked about the movie, music and also mentioned possibility to present the movie in Eastern Europe. “This movie is very distinct, it is fresh, courageous, which is important for the story itself,” said Oreiro: “It is a great production and in role of reality show host is amazing Spanish actress Rossy de Palma!“ Oreiro said about her involvement with the movie: “In year 2001 Martín Sastre gave me a book Miss Tacuarembó, at that time unpublished, and he told me he wants to make movie based on the book with me, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. Years later I flew to Russia and in bookstore I saw book Miss Tacuarembó. I read it with one breath and decided to contact the author immediately,” she remembers: “First I called Dani Umpi, book’s author, but he told me that about the movie I need to talk with Martín. I called him and our cooperation started!” She said about premiere: “I would like to thank our distribution company because our movie will have national release in whole Argentina. For national movie that is something uncommon with all the American movies coming in!“
On Tuesday July 13th 2010 actress Natalia Oreiro together with actor Diego Reinhold, director Martín Sastre and music composer Ale Sergi were guests of live talk show Almorzando con Mirtha Legrand on TV station America TV 2. “The success of the movie in Uruguay is amazing,” said Sastre and Oreiro added: “We were surprised by how many people came to see the movie already, because it is football season and in general people don’t go to cinemas that often.” Composer Sergi said: “I composed six songs for the movie and one song was also composed by Natalia’s husband Ricardo Mollo, because that song is for movie’s evil character and I wanted that song to be in rock. I am very happy I could be part of this movie because I love musicals!“ The same day Oreiro was guest of another live show called Justo a Tiempo on TV station TeLeFe, where she invited audience to see movie Miss Tacuarembó.
On Wednesday July 14th 2010 already third movie’s official press conference took place. The conference was held in hotel Four Seasons in Buenos Aires. From 2pm actors Natalia Oreiro, Diego Reinhold, Sofia Silvera and twins Ema and María Pratto, director Martín Sastre and also music composer Ale Sergi were present to attend the media. There was also a photocall and open questions time. “We are extremely happy wit the result, I am confident people will like it too. It was one of the most entertaining filming I have ever done in my career,” said Oreiro in an interview for TeLeFe. Oreiro was also interviewed live at 4pm for show Intrusos on TV station America TV 2.

The fist day when Argentine public could see the movie in cinemas was on July 15th 2010. Company distributing the movie is Buena Vista International and from the first day the movie was screened in 53 halls of Argentina with the projection to have 75 halls in follow up days. The first to see the movie were people from provinces Buenos Aires (30 halls in towns of Bahía Blanca, La Plata, Mar del Plata and Tandil), Córdoba (6 halls), Catamarca (1 hall), Chaco (1 hall), Corrientes (1 hall), Mendoza (2 halls), Santa Fe (4 halls in town of Rosario), Salto (1 hall), San Juan (1 hall), San Luis (1 hall), Santiago del Estero (2 halls) a Tucumán (3 halls). As well as in Uruguay critics in Argentina were very positive:

From all 27 movie critiques that were written in Argentina, there were 21 (78%) positive and only 6 were negative, thus with ranking of 50 per cent or less. On average the movie received 65%. The best critique was from Escribiendo Cine, 100%. On the other hand the lowest ranking was 30% from critique of Espacio Cine. In general movie Miss Tacuarembó had according to Argentine critiques always more than 60%.
Natalia Oreiro altogether with actor Boris Bakst gave an interview for newspaper La Capital published on July 15th 2010 in town Rosario, province Santa Fé. “Boris is very good actor and also very handsome, he was the only one who kissed me on my lips during casting, I was just stunned! The scrip asked for kiss, Boris was last of fifteen guys for the role, but no one before was so brave as to kiss me,” laughs Oreiro. “It was amazing to work with Natalia, great experience! She is very humble, friendly with everyone and never acted as celebrity, she is very human,” said Bakst, who was just 21 years old when filming the movie.
The same day Natalia Oreiro was supposed to come to town Mendoza for promotion of the movie. In local hotel Four Seasons there was supposed to be media meeting. Later she was supposed to give interview for newspaper Uno Multimedia altogether with director Martín Sastre. And finally at 10pm Oreiro was supposed to introduce the movie in cinema Cinemark. However, it was announced that due to circumstances of previous night Oreiro was unable to come to Mendoza, as she was suffering from nervous breakdown. Just before movie premiere in Buenos Aires at 8pm on July 14th 2010, there was a demonstration against the movie right in front of the cinema Belgrano. The reason for demonstration was that apparently during filming there were working technicians without working permission in Argentina. Lucas Mestante, movie producer, said for newspaper Uno: “We were informed that couple of demonstrators gathered in front of the cinema. Natalia was unable to go through, she got panic attack and she suffered nervous breakdown.” Carlos Mentasti, another movie producer, added: “It was the most important event for the movie and Natalia could not be there. At 2am I was informed that Natalia can not make it to Mendoza either.” However, later that day it was announce that Oreiro would be unable to come to Mendoza anyway because all flights were cancelled due to harsh snowstorms in Mendoza area. Oscar Azar, another movie producer, gave official statement saying that in Argentina no workers were working illegally. Azar, moreover, hired a lawyer to press charges against organization SICA, the one that initiated the demonstration in Buenos Aires.

On Friday July 16th 2010 it was announced that just during one day in 53 cinemas (another cinemas were added in following screening days) movie Miss Tacuarembó was seen by 2.298 cinemagoers. The movie was placed on sixth position of Top 10 Argentine box-office. The movie, however, was on first position considering national movies. After second screening day, already 4.888 people saw the movie in 56 cinemas. The third day was also very successful; by July 17th 2010, 10.378 cinemagoers saw the movie in 62 Argentine cinemas. After first screening weekend, from July 15th till 18th 2010, 15.259 cinemagoers in altogether 62 cinemas saw the movie; the movie thus earned already 61.413 dollars. The movie was still on sixth place of Top 10 box-office. On Monday July 19th 2010 the movie was screened in another two halls, making it 64 in whole Argentina with 17.591 cinemagoers altogether. By Tuesday another 4.000 people went to see the movie and the overall number rose to 21.510 Argentine cinemagoers. The most successful screening day was Wednesday July 21st 2010 when another 5.814 cinemagoers saw the movie. During the very first screening week of the movie, till July 21st 2010, 27.324 people saw the movie. The movie was still on sixth place while being on first place in national movies of box-office.
After the first screening week the movie unfortunately did not meet produces’ expectations of box-office and it was decided that cinemas screening the movie would be reduced. In the second screening week, the number of cinemas was reduced to only 24 by July 24th 2010. It was announced on Friday July 23rd 2010 by Cines Argentinos that low box-office numbers are also influenced by big boom of American 3D movies that were the leaders of current Argentine box-office. It was announced that on Thursday July 22nd 2010 on average only 34 people saw the movie in each of 26 screening cinemas.
On Thursday July 22nd 2010 movie soundtrack was published in Argentina. Banda Sonora Original Miss Tacuarembó consists of nine movie songs and was published by Pelo Music. The soundtrack could be bought in music shops Musimundo all over Argentina. As part of promotion, song El Perfume del Amor sang by actors Natalia Oreiro, Diego Reinhold and Boris Bakst, was released as CD single for radios. Movie’s fragment with this song was used as official music video that was broadcasted on Argentine TV and Internet.

Movie Miss Tacuarembó was seen in its second screening weekend, from Thursday 22nd of July till Sunday 25th of July, by another 5.509 Argentine cinemagoers in 37 cinemas. Altogether 32.876 cinemagoers saw the movie. The movie was placed on eleventh position in Argentine box office after its second screening week.
In the third screening week in Argentina, till August 4th 2010, cinemas screening the movie were reduced only to two cinemas in Buenos Aires and two cinemas in provinces Mendoza and Córdoba. In its third screening week, movie Miss Tacuarembó was seen by another 2.056 Argentine cinemagoers. The movie was placed on fifteenth position of box-office. To August 1st 2010, altogether 38.976 people saw the movie. From August 3rd 2010 the movie could be also seen in town Carmen de Patagones south of province Buenos Aires. The movie was screened daily at 8pm in cinema Cine Garibaldi until August 12th 2010. Ticket cost was 5 pesos. The screening there was supported by organization INCAA. After third full screening week, 39.300 cinemagoers went to see the movie.
In its fourth screening week, till August 11th 2011, movie Miss Tacuarembó had its premiere also in province Santa Fe. In Santa Fe the movie was screened in cinema Cine Teatro Belgrano until Tuesday August 10th 2010 and was screened two times a day, at 7 and 9.30pm. The entrance tickets were 15 pesos at weekend and 10 pesos during the week.
In fifth screening week of movie Miss Tacuarembó, till August 18th 2010, screening was renewed in many of Argentine cinemas. Now the movie could be seen in 15 cinemas in Argentina. In capital Buenos Aires the movie was screened in cinema Gaumont. In province Buenos Aires the movie was moreover screened in towns Monte Grande, Los Toldos, Monte Hermoso and in Bahía Blanca, where the movie was screened in cinema Visual and in cinema Cinemacenter. Moreover, the movie could be seen in province San Luis in town San Luis, in province Chaco in town Resistencia, in province Catamarca in town Catamarca and in province Corrientes in town Corrientes, where the movie was screened in cinema Cinemacenter and also in cinema Shopping Corrientes. In this province the movie was screened also in town Goya. Furthermore, the movie was screened in province Córdoba in town Villa de Rosario in local cinema Cinecor. In province Río Negro the movie could be seen in town Bariloche. Finally in province Santa Fe the movie was screened in town Villa Constitución. Starting from Friday August 13th 2010, the movie was screened in town Choele Choel, in province of Rio Negro. There the movie could be seen in cinema Cine Sportsman till Monday August 16th 2010 daily at 8pm. After fifth screening weekend of the movie in Argentine, 42.246 Argentine cinemagoers saw the movie already. On Tuesday August 17th 2010 an interview with actor Mike Amigorena was published where he also talked about his movie’s character of Jesus: “Jesus should be seen in this pop context,” he started: “It was funny filming, Jesus wears jacket and appears to be close and cool. In the movie I had also chance to sing. I put a lot of energy into it, singing is important for me and to sing a song as Jesus was just thrilling,” he added. From Tuesday August 17th 2010 the movie could be seen in town San Juan in province San Juan. The movie was screened daily at 9.30pm in cinema Teatro Municipal and was supported by organization INCAA. The entrance fee was 6 pesos. After fifth screening week of Miss Tacuarembó, screening of the movie in most of the cinemas was concluded.

In sixth screening week, till August 25th 2010, the movie continued to be screened in seven cinemas of Argentina; in province San Juan in town San Juan, in province Río Negro in town Bariloche, in province Buenos Aires in towns Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata and newly also in town Coronel Pringles, in province Chubut in town Rawson and in province Neuquén in town San Martín de Los Andes. In town San Juan the movie was screened in cinema Teatro Municipal at 9.30pm till August 26th 2010. The entrance cost was 6 pesos. In town Rawson the movie was screened at 9.30pm and at weekends also at 7pm. In town Coronel Pringles the movie was screened the whole weekend till August 22nd 2010 at 5 and 9pm. Finally, in town San Martín de Los Andes the movie was screened daily at 8pm in cinema Centro Cultural Cotesma. In sixth screening weekend, from August 19th till 22nd 2010, the movie was seen in seven cinemas by another 1.124 cinemagoers. Miss Tacuarembó was altogether seen already by 43.705 people. The movie was placed on eighteenth position in Top 20 Argentine box-office in this week. After sixth screening week, screening of the movie in majority of the cinemas was concluded.
In seventh screening week, till September 1st 2010, the movie was still screened in two cinemas in provinces Chubut and Jujuy.
In eight screening week, from September 2nd till 8th 2010, the movie was moreover screened in provinces Salta and Chubut in town San Jorge in South of Argentina, Patagonia. Movie could be seen daily at 7.30pm.
In ninth screening week of movie Miss Tacuarembó in Argentine, from September 9th till 15th 2010, the movie was still screened in provinces Chaco, Buenos Aires and newly also in province La Rioja. In province Chaco the movie could be seen in town Resistencia daily till Sunday September 12th 2010 at 10pm in cinema Complejo Guido Miranda. In province La Rioja the movie was screened daily at 10pm till Tuesday September 14th 2010. In province Buenos Aires the movie could be seen in town Burzaco daily from 5pm. On Friday September 10th 2010 new cinema was opened in town Trenque Lauquen in province Buenos Aires supported by governmental organization INCAA. The opening ceremony was called El Ciclo de Cine Nacional and movie Miss Tacuarembó was one of the selected Argentine movies to be screened. The movie was presented on September 12th 2010 at 6.30pm. By the end of ninth screening week, on September 14th 2010, the movie returned to cinemas in province Salta in town Salta, and, moreover, the movie was presented for the first time also in town Neuquén in province Neuquén. There the movie was screened daily at 7.30pm. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was after its nine screening weeks, from July 15th till September 15th 2010, seen already by 45.813 Argentine cinemagoers.
In already tenth screening week, till September 22nd 2010, movie Miss Tacuarembó could still be seen in province Chaco in cinema Complejo Cultural Guido Miranda. There the movie was screened till Sunday September 19th 2010 at 10pm and at midnight; and could also still be seen in province Salta.
In eleventh screening week, till September 29th 2010, movie Miss Tacuarembó was in cinemas in town Salta, province Salta, daily from 6.30pm till Wednesday September 29th 2010. Moreover, the movie returned to cinema INCAA in province San Juan in town San Juan. There the movie was screened daily at 9.30pm. In its twelfth screening week in Argentina, till October 6th 2010, movie Miss Tacuarembó had its premiere in town Trelew in province Chubut. The movie was screened in cinema INCAA on Friday October 1st 2010 at 9.30pm. The movie was screened till Sunday October 3rd 2010.
In thirteenth screening week, till October 13th 2010, it was still possible to see the movie in two Argentine provinces; in Buenos Aires, where the movie returned to cinema in town Burzaco till October 10th 2010 and was screened daily at 3pm, and in Chubut in town Trelew, where the movie was screened in cinema Coliseo at 9.30pm till October 10th 2010.
In fourteenth screening week of movie Miss Tacuarembó in Argentina, till October 20th 2010, the movie was screened for the first time in town Trévelin in province Chubut. The movie was screened in cinema INCAA daily at 9.30pm. On Wednesday October 20th 2010, after movie’s fourteen screening week, official cinematographic distribution of Miss Tacuarembó in Argentina was concluded.
In November 2010 movie Miss Tacuarembó received three prestigious nominations for awards Premios Sur 2010 as decided by Academia de las Artes y Ciencias Cinematograficas. Actor Diego Reinhold was nominated as ‘Mejor Actor de Reparto‘ for his role of Carlos, director Martín Sastre received nomination for movie script in section ‘Mejor Guión Adaptado‘, and make-up artist Oscar Mulet received nomination in section ‘Mejor Maquillaje y Caracterización‘. The award ceremony took place on December 14th 2010 in Buenos Aires at 8pm in cinema Cine Gaumont. The movie did not win any award in the end.
In September 2010 DVD release date of movie Miss Tacuarembó was announced, November 17th 2010. Later this date was changed to January 11th 2011 when the DVD was released in whole Argentina. Also from October 20th 2010 the DVD was supposed to be available for rent, however, this was also changed for January when the movie had its national DVD release.

On November 24th 2010 movie server Cines Argentinos published official results of Argentine box-office of 2010. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was placed on tenth position. In fourteen screening weeks of the movie in Argentina, 46.058 cinemagoers saw the movie. The movie earned 636.773,28 Argentine pesos (159.421 American dollars).
On November 29th 2010 results of awards by Argentine magazine Pronto were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó won the first place and was thus awarded as the best movie of 2010 for readers of magazine Pronto. The movie received 43.6% of all votes.
On December 28th 2010 Argentine TV station Canal 7 – TV Pública published their top 10 list of Argentine cinematography of 2010. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was placed on tenth position among other successful movies and documentaries.
Actress Natalia Oreiro talked in an interview from February 25th 2011 for Argentine newspaper La Capital also about her movie Miss Tacuarembó: “It is a movie that will be recognized only in few years, but when I accepted this project I already knew that it is a movie that some will love and some will hate,” she said about movie’s reception in Argentina.
On March 6th 2011 nominations for prestigious Argentine film awards Premios Cóndor de Plata 2011 were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó received altogether seven nominations. Actor Diego Reinhold received nomination ‘Revelación Masculina‘. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was nominated as the best first feature film of the director ‘Mejor Opera Prima‘. Thanks to the movie script, as based on the novel by Dani Umpi the movie received best script nomination ‘Mejor Guión Adaptado‘. Songs from the movie as composed by Ale Sergi, received nomination ‘Mejor Música Original‘. The movie received also three other nominations in sections ‘Mejor Dirección de Arte‘ for its outstanding cinematography, ‘Mejor Vestuario‘ for its costumes and ‘Mejor Sonido‘ for movie’s musical side. In the end the movie did not win any of the nominated awards.
On Friday September 16th 2011 movie Miss Tacuarembó returned to silver screens as part of film festival ‘Fiesta de la Primavera ‘ in town Villa Carlos Paz in Argentine province Córdoba. The movie was screened at 8,30pm in cinema Cine en el Rizzuto.

3.1.3 Spain
Premiere of movie Miss Tacuarembó was originally in Spain planned for September 2010. However, even before its release the movie had to face accusation from Catholic Church about blasphemy. “This movie is not for children despite the fact that the production promotes it so, and this movie offends believers with its anti-Catholic message and view of Jesus who at one point even dances half naked with the protagonist who seduced him,” publicly said Spanish priest Tomás de la Torre in July 2010. This priest was asking his followers not to help this movie to success, because it goes absolutely against the will of God.
In September 2010 movie’s Spanish production company Cool Shot Films announced that distributors are waiting for the right time to release the movie into cinemas and that the preliminary date is set for November 2010. Spanish actress Rossy de Palma, who in movie Miss Tacuarembó portrays host of reality show Patricia Peinado, said in an interview from September 20th 2010 that the movie might premiere in Madrid in November 2010. “It is a movie that in funny way deals with success of artists and plays with famous iconography of pop as well as the religious one, it also includes image of controversial theme park Cristo Park in Argentina,“ said De Palma.
In November 2010 producer of Cool Shot Films Eva Marciel said that movie Miss Tacuarembó could premiere in Spain only in January 28th 2011. The movie was classified as accessible to all audience despite religious protests. The classification was granted already on August 28th 2010.
On November 26th 2010 official movie’s Facebook published new promotional poster for Miss Tacuarembó in Spain. The poster is completely different from the one in Argentina and Uruguay and there are actors Natalia Oreiro, Mike Amigorena and Rossy de Palma on it. There are also movie’s critiques from Latin America on the poster from July 2010. “You must see this movie with your own eyes,” said critic Juan Pablo Rosso from Escribiendo Cine. There is also mention about movie’s several nominations at Argentine awards Premios Sur 2010 as well as mention of movie’s participation at Swedish film festival on the poster.
On December 3rd 2010 Argentine information server LaUbfal wrote that movie Miss Tacuarembó should premiere in Spain on 28th of January 2010 and that main star Natalia Oreiro should fly to Madrid to present her movie personally.

Despite the fact that everything was ready for January’s premiere, the premiere itself was moved once again. The reason was movie’s Miss Tacuarembó selection for main section of prestigious Spanish film festival Festival de Málaga de Cine Espanol, which took place in March 2011. Movie’s Spanish producer Eva Marciel said that new premiere might be scheduled for April 8th 2011.
In an interview for Argentine magazine Hola from December 21st 2010 actress Natalia Oreiro talked also about planned premiere of movie Miss Tacuarembó in Spain. “I expect a lot of success from Spanish premier! I think people will like the movie because it is completely crazy story and there are also talented Spanish actors,” laughs Oreiro.
On January 13th 2011 it was confirmed by official website of actress Natalia Oreiro that movie will take part at film festival Festival de Málaga de Cine Espanol, taking place from March 26th till April 2nd 2011. Moreover, it was announced that the final date for Spanish cinematographic premiere would be May 13th 2011. However, it was announced that Oreiro would not be present at the film festival due to her other work engagements but that she should be present at Madrid’s premiere in May 2011.
On Sunday January 16th 2011 in Uruguayan newspaper El País interview with director Martínem Sastre was published: “Now we focus with our team on presenting movie Miss Tacuarembó in Spain in March,“ said Sastre about Spanish premiere. He also added that on January 28th 2011 (original cinematographic date of the premiere) the movie would be screened for friends and movie journalists and critics in La Casa Encendida in Madrid. After the screening there were first Spanish critiques published:

In March 2011 the movie was successfully presented at festival in Malaga, where the movie won two prestigious awards in its festival section Zonazine, award Biznaga de Plata a la Mejor Película for the best movie and director Martín Sastre won an award for his outstanding movie scrip called Premio Alma Mejor Guionista Novel.
Movie’s official premiere in Spain was planned for May 13th 2011; however, few days before promotional events took place already. Main movie’s star Natalia Oreiro arrived to Madrid on Sunday May 8th 2011 at 2.40pm with direct flight of Aerolineas Argentinas from Buenos Aires in order to be part of promotional events. On Monday May 9th 2011 there was a press conference, photocall and media meeting taking place from 10am in cinema Cine Princesa. Director Martín Sastre and Spanish actors Rossy de Palma and Alejandro Tous also attended the conference. “I don’t understand critiques from people who believe in God. For me the fact that Jesus isn’t only on the cross, but can also come down and hug the one who worships him, is very universal and positive,” said Oreiro during the press conference. “The movie is for everyone who is distinct in any possible aspect,” answered Oreiro question if the movie is focused on gay community. “We are all gay,” laughed De Palma. “It is a movie about how to fulfill your dreams, but at the same time we wanted our audience to have fun watching it and singing our songs. I am a singer too, but to sing a song from Irene Cara was a challenge for me, because it is a famous song and I didn’t want to disappoint cinemagoers,” said Oreiro about movie’s musical theme.

One day later, on May 10th 2011, movie’s soundtrack was released in Spain. Apart from the Argentine edition this soundtrack resembles look of movie’s Spanish poster and there are apart from sang songs also few instrumental melodies as composed by Ignácio Peréz Marín. Natalia Oreiro also attended live chat of website Tira Millas, where she could answer questions: “The movie is based on novel, but the story itself was changed a bit for movie adaptation. I am so happy that book’s author liked the movie, too!”
The same day in the evening official pre-premiere took place in cinema Cine Luchana. After 10pm all movie’s stars lead by Natalia Oreiro, Rossy de Palma and Alejandro Tous as well as director Martínem Sastre appeared on the red carpet. Photocall followed with interviews from the red carpet for various Spanish TV stations and programs. “In the movie I portray two characters, the main protagonist and her antagonist, which I loved the most!” said Oreiro for TV show Tonterías Las Justas. After these interviews official movie introduction followed for sold out hall. Director Sastre thanked his actors and producers for their cooperation on the movie. Furthermore, each actor said few words before screening could take place. “I am extremely happy to be here to finally present movie Miss Tacuarembó. I hope that you will like and enjoy it and that you will be leaving cinema dancing and singing our songs!” said Oreiro. After movie’s screening there was official after-party taking place with presence of all main movie’s stars.
Actress Natalia Oreiro returned back to Buenos Aires on Wednesday May 11th 2011 with direct flight of Aerolineas Argentinas at 10.05pm.
First time Spanish audience could see movie Miss Tacuarembó in cinemas was on Friday May 13th 2011. Yedra Films distributed the movie in Spain. The first screening week the movie was screened in towns of Madrid, Barcelona, Valadolid, Sevilla, Gerona, Lérida, Puerto de Santa María, Granada, Cádiz, Bilbao, Vitoria, Pamplona, Petrer, Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, Lugo, Las Palmas, Alcalá de Henares and Málaga. Spanish critiques were very positive:

On Sunday May 15th 2011 interview with actress Natalia Oreiro was published in Argentine newspaper Clarín, where she talked about her visit of Madrid. “Because of my work I couldn’t come to present movie at festival in Malaga, where movie was awarded as the best movie and best script, so I just couldn’t miss Spanish premiere,” she said and added: “I think Spanish audience understood the movie better than Argentine one. It is not movie for children as it was presented in Argentina.“

Interview with Natalia Oreiro from the press conference was also published in Spanish magazine Telenovela from May 17th 2011, where Oreiro also talked about her movie Miss Tacuarembó: “People often don’t even notice that I also portray Cándida until they read it in end titles. The transformation took seven hours a day and I also trained with voice couch to change my voice tone. I came up with this idea, I knew it would be a great challenge, but the director loved it. The first day actor Alejandro Tous saw me without being introduced to me he couldn’t believe that Cándida was I,” she said.
On May 18th 2011 first results of movie Miss Tacuarembó in Spanish cinemas were announced. The movie was seen by 196 cinemagoers in 14 cinemas of Spain and the movie earned 1.200 Euro. Second screening week, from May 20th to 26th 2010, the movie could be seen only in four cinemas, in towns Madrid, Alicante, Cádiz and Sevilla. In third and fourth screening week, till June 9th 2011, the movie was screened only in Madrid in two cinemas Luchana and in neighborhood Collado Villalba in cinema Cine Estrella.
In fifth screening week, from 10th till 16th of June 2010, movie Miss Tacuarembó was still screened in two cinemas in Madrid and additionally he movie was also screened in third Madrid’s cinema La Vaguada. The movie was screened twice or three times a day in each cinema. In sixth screening week, till June 22nd 2011, the movie could be seen only in one cinema in Madrid, Luchana, each day twice. In July 2011 screening of movie in Spain was concluded.
Half a year later from its cinematographic premiere, movie Miss Tacuarembó returned to silver screens from Friday November 18th 2011 in Spanish province Andalucía in town Córdoba. The movie could be seen from 7.30pm and was screened three times.
On December 16th 2011 pre-nominations for prestigious Spanish awards Los Goya 2012 were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was selected for 24 different categories with possible nomination. Among the most important ones are ‘The Best Actress – Natalia Oreiro‘, ‘The Best Movie‘, ‘The Best Music‘ or ‘The Best Direction‘. Unfortunately the movie did not receive any final nomination.
Spanish governmental organization for cinematography ICAA published by the end of 2011 results of Spanish box office and incomes. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was in Spain seen by 1.279 cinemagoers and the movie thus earned 5.119,10 Euros.

Sastre and De Palma presenting movie in CasAmérica (24-1-2012)
In January 2012 the Latin American musical Miss Tacuarembó returned to silver screens in Madrid. The movie was screened from Tuesday 24th of January till Saturday 4th of February 2012 in cinema CasAmérica always at 8pm. The entrance was only 5 Euros. As part of small promotion of renewed premiere in Madrid, director Martín Sastre and actress Rossy de Palma were present at special opening screening on January 24th 2012 at 7.30 to present the movie. “You might not know about this, but actress Natalia Oreiro is pregnant and when I called her that today we present Miss Tacuarembó in CasAmérica she was joking that today for sure her son Merlín would be born,” laughs Sastre at the presentation and adds: “In real life of Natalia Oreiro and life of her character Natalia there are few similarities, they both come from Uruguay and they also both come to big Buenos Aires to fulfill their dreams.” De Palma said about her movie character: “Patricia is host of reality show where Natalia’s character comes to and in her naivety thinks that the title of ‘miss’ would help her escape her problems.“
On January 31st 2012 results of voting for the best Spanish movie of 2011 by magazine Fotogramas as selected by Curso de Crítica de la Escuela de Escritores de Madrid were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was placed on fifth position of the best 2011 Spanish movies.
One year after Spanish premiere of Miss Tacuarembó governmental cinematographic organization ICAA announced that 1.522 cinemagoers saw the movie and the movie managed to earn 5.942 Euros.

3.2 Film Festival Release
3.2.1 Uruguay (National Film Festival Premiere)
Despite the fact that cinematographic screening was concluded in Uruguay by September 1st 2010, movie Miss Tacuarembó returned to silver screens on September 19th 2010 at 7pm as part of Uruguayan film festival 4° Encuentro de Cine Nacional, where only Uruguayan movies were presented.
At the end of November 2010 there was in Uruguay film festival Sexto Festival de Cortometrajes Internacional Paso Molino taking place, where movies from all around the world were screened as selected by La Comisión de Cultura del Concejo Vecinal and with the support of Spanish embassy. With the occasion of national day of cinematography Dia Nacional de Cine on December 5th 2010 movie Miss Tacuarembó together with movie Marcovaldo and with winning features of the festival were screened as part of the festival. The same day Miss Tacuarembó was as part of Dia Nacional de Cine screened also in Uruguayan town Durazno in cinema MEC at city square Plaza Sarandí.
One year from its official cinematographic premiere in Uruguay, movie Miss Tacuarembó was screened on July 14th 2011 as part of ‘Ciclo Linterna Mágica ‘ in Montevideo. Screening was at 5pm, was for free and took place in the open-air theater.

3.2.2 Switzerland (International Film Festival Premiere)
The very first international film festival movie Miss Tacuarembó was ever part of was prestigious Swiss film festival 25° Festival International de Films de Fribourg, which took place from March 19th till 26th 2011.
Miss Tacuarembó was one of 12 movies selected for official competition International Competition and could win award ‘Regard d’or‘. First screening took place on Saturday March 19th 2011 at 8.45pm in cinema Rex 3. Second and third screening was always at 6pm in cinema Capciné 5 on March 21st and 24th 2010. The movie was screened with English, French and German subtitles.

Martín Sastre was present at the festival to introduce his movie Miss Tacuarembó personally. Despite movie’s official competition section, the movie was not awarded.

3.2.3 Spain
On February 22nd 2011 official selections for Spanish film festival Festival de Málaga de Cine Espanol were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was one of the six movies selected for section Zonazine, which was decided by three-member jury.
On March 1st 2011 in Madrid in cinema Fnac-Callao first press conference of festival Festival de Málaga de Cine Espanol took place, where all festival’s movies were presented. It was furthermore announced that Miss Tacuarembó would be screened on March 26th 2011. Director Martín Sastre was present at the conference and said about movie expectations: “In Argentina and Uruguay we met with strong Church opposition, we expect this opposition to rise here as well,” addressed the controversial issue. The same day in the evening festival’s party took place, where Miss Tacuarembó Spanish producer Eva Marciel accompanied movie’s director Sastre.

Movie Miss Tacuarembó was selected as opening movie of section Zonazine. First screening took place on March 26th 2011 at 6.30pm in cinema Cine Albéniz, this screening was only for journalists and media. Second screening was for public and took place the same day at 10pm.
Apart from director Martín Sastre there were at the festival Spanish movie producers Eva Marciel and Jesús Corredera present, as well as movie’s Spanish actors Rossy de Palma and Alejandro Tous, who in the movie portray Patricia Peinado and priest Clever. “For me it is great privilege to have my first movie at this film festival. It is musical comedy for everyone who wants to have some fun,” said Sastre in an interview from the red carpet at festival’s opening. Actor Tous said about the movie: “The movie is not yet known in Spain, but in Argentina already received variety of nominations and I think that also in Spain people will love the movie!” Spanish actress De Palma talked about Church’s opposition: “I don’t understand why these groups are protesting against our movie, apparently they must be very bored!” she joked.
During movie’s official press conference director Martín Sastre said: “In my first movie I have everything that no one wants in their first movie: children, animals, flying people, special effects and choreography,” he laughs and adds: “I understand that orthodox Church will not like the movie because there is a character of Jesus who dances and looks like David Beckham!“ Movie’s team was also present at the second screening for audience at 10pm to introduce the movie.
After the screening of Miss Tacuarembó at the film festival there were first Spanish critiques published in variety of media. Most of them dealt with movie’s controversial religious issues, but majority of the critiques were highly positive:

On April 1st 2011 festival’s ceremony gala was taking place at 8.30pm in cinema Cine Albéniz. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was awarded by award Biznaga de Plata a la Mejor Película as the best movie of its festival section Zonazine. Moreover, director Martína Sastre received another award, Premio Alma Mejor Guionista Novel for the best movie script.

Movie Miss Tacuarembó was in June 2011 part of film festival VI Edición de 'Madrid de Cine-Spanish Film Screenings'. Festival took place in Spain’s capital from June 19th till 21st 2011. The movie was very successful at the festival and was one of the films that foreign distributers mostly sought.
Third Spanish film festival where movie Miss Tacuarembó was presented was Festival de Ideas VivAmérica 2011 in Madrid organized by CasAmérica and taking place from October 4th till 9th 2011. The movie was screened on October 7th 2011 at 8pm with presence of director Martín Sastre. Entrance fee was 3 Euros. “The movie tells a story about a girl from Tacuarembó who comes to big town and hopes to become famous through reality show,” said Sastre in an interview for CasAmérica. After the screening there was a discussion with audience that lasted for more than one hour and where the director answered questions and comments.
Already fourth film festival where the movie was presented was international film festival IBAFF, which took place from March 5th till 10th 2012 in Spanish town Murcia. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was selected for the official competition section Sección Oficial a Concurso and was competing for award of 4 thousand Euros. The movie was screened on March 8th 2012 at 9pm.
Furthermore, Miss Tacuarembó was one of the movies selected for Spanish film festival Festival de Cine de Alicante, which took place from June 2nd till 9th 2010. The movie, however, was not part of official competition.

3.2.4 Sweden
Already third international film festival where Miss Tacuarembó was screened was 12th Stockholm International Film Festival. The movie was in section Junior dedicated for children and youth. Festival took place from April 11th till 16th 2011.
Miss Tacuarembó was screened three times, the first screening was on Monday April 11th 2011 at 1.30pm in cinema Grand 1, second screening was on Wednesday April 13th 2011 at 1pm in cinema Grand 2 and the final screening was on Friday April 15th 2011 at 9am again in cinema Grand 2.

3.2.5 USA
In the USA movie Miss Tacuarembó was for the first time presented as part of film festival 14th Cine Las America International Film Festival in April 2011. This festival took place in state Texas in town Austin and the movie was screened on April 26th 2011 at 4pm in cinema Alamo South Lamar. First American movie critiques were very positive:

“Miss Tacuarembó is a story about family, friendship and a journey that everyone needs to take to rule the world. It is a story of courage, faith and persistence!“

French distribution company Rendez-vous Pictures has rights to distribute the movie also in the USA and their aim is to present the movie all around the globe.
Second American film festival where Miss Tacuarembó was presented was Milwaukee Film Festival 2011, which took place in state Wisconsin from September 22nd till October 2nd 2011. The movie was screened in section Fiction Festival Favorites and could be seen three times, on September 25th at 12pm in cinema Downer Theater, on September 26th at 5.15pm in cinema Ridge Cinema and on October 1st at 7.30pm in cinema North Shore Cinema. The entrance cost 10 dollars.
Already third film festival in the USA where Miss Tacuarembó was screened was AFI Latin American Film Festival, taking place from September 22nd till October 12th 2011 in state’s capital Washington DC. The movie was presented as the winner of section Zonazine at March’s Spanish film festival Málaga Film Festival. For the first time audience could see the movie on September 30th 2011 at 9pm in cinema Silver Theater. For the second time the movie was screened on October 4th 2011 at 7.15pm. The entrance was 11 dollars.
26th Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival was already fourth American film festival where movie Miss Tacuarembó was presented. The movie was screened two times, on Thursday November 3rd 2011 at 9pm and on Wednesday November 9th 2011 at 7pm. Miss Tacuarembó is already a second feature film of Uruguayan actress and singer Natalia Oreiro that is presented at this particular American film festival. The first one was in 2003 movie Cleopatra, which at this festival won three prestigious festival awards.
Fifth screening of Miss Tacuarembó in USA was part of The Center for Latin American Studies at Ohio. University. The movie was screened on Wednesday March 7th 2012 at 7.30pm in cinema Hagerty Hall. The entrance was for free and the movie was screened with English subtitles.
Already sixth American film festival with movie’s presentation was Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, where the movie was screened on May 5th 2012. The screening was at 8pm in cinema Gables Cinema.

3.2.6 France
Thanks to movie’s French distribution company Rendez-vous Pictures , which owns rights for international distribution of movie Miss Tacuarembó, the movie was presented as part of prestigious French film festival Festival de Cannes 2011 in section Marché Du Film, also known as Cannes Film Market. The movie was screened on Friday May 13th 2011 at 1.30pm in cinema Palais J. For its international release the movie got also new promo poster and new trailer with English subtitles.

3.2.7 Canada
Canadian premiere of movie Miss Tacuarembó was part of film festival 21st Annual Inside Out Festival, taking place in Toronto from May 19th till 29th 2011. The movie was screened on May 21st 2011 at 2.30pm in cinema TIFF Bell Lightbox Cinema.

3.2.8 Italy
In June 2011 movie Miss Tacuarembó was screened at its already seventh international film festival, this time at Italian Roma Independent Film Festival. The movie was among six Argentine movies screened in section The Days of Argentine Cinema.

3.2.9 Ireland
On July 31st 2011 movie Miss Tacuarembó was screened at the international Irish film festival GAZE Film Festival in Dublin. The movie could be seen from 8pm and the entrance was 10 Euros.

3.2.10 South Korea
Premiere of movie Miss Tacuarembó in Asia was part of seventh edition of international film festival in South Korea called 7th Jecheo International Music & Film Festival, which took place from August 11th till 16th 2011. The movie was presented on August 13th 2011 at 8.30pm and for the second time could be seen one day later at midnight. The movie was screened with English subtitles.

3.3 Home Media Release
3.3.1 Original Soundtrack
3.3.1.1 Argentine Edition
On Thursday July 22nd 2010 original movie’s soundtrack was published in Argentina under official name Banda Sonora Original Miss Tacuarembó. The soundtrack includes nine movie songs and was published by Pelo Music. The soundtrack could be bought in musical chain shops Musimundo in Argentina. From July 27th 2010 the same soundtrack was published also in Uruguay.
Natalia Oreiro sings for the movie four solo songs; Cristal, which was composed by Ale Sergi, Cándida, composed by her husband Ricardo Mollo and lyrics written by Oreiro and director Martín Sastre, and songs What a feeling from movie Flashdance and song Mi Vida Eres Tú from famous telenovela Cristal. The CD also includes duet of actor Mike Amigorena as Jesus and Oreiro called Papá.
Musical song El Perfume del Amor, sang by lead protagonists Natalia Oreiro, Boris Bakst and Diego Reinhold, was also released as movie’s radio single and movie’s fragment of the song was used as official music video. Remaining three songs on the CD are called Días de Coreografia, Cristo Park and Ten Fe, and are sung by other movie’s protagonists.

3.3.1.2 Spanish Edition
Together with movie’s cinematographic release in Spain, there was on May 10th 2011 new movie’s original soundtrack released. Warner Music published the soundtrack.
In contrast with Argentine version of the soundtrack, this version has different cover that corresponds with Spanish promotional poster. Also booklet is completely new and now includes full track-list, cats and crew information, movie’s synopsis and introduction written by director Martín Sastre. Also apart from nine movie songs, there were added several instrumental melodies as composed by Ignácio Peréz Marín.

3.3.2 Digital video disc
Movie Miss Tacuarembó was in Argentina released on DVD on January 11th 2011 by distribution company SPB. Apart from the full movie with English subtitles, there are also several bonuses included, such as photo gallery, original movie’s music and official Argentine movie trailer.

The number one national box office movie of Uruguay in 2010 Miss Tacuarembó had its television premiere on TV station Canal 10 on Wednesday August 8th 2012 at 9.30pm.

4. Awards & Nominations
In November 2010 movie Miss Tacuarembó received three prestigious nominations for awards Premios Sur 2010 as decided by Academia de las Artes y Ciencias Cinematograficas. Actor Diego Reinhold was nominated as ‘Mejor Actor de Reparto‘ for his role of Carlos, director Martín Sastre received nomination for movie script in section ‘Mejor Guión Adaptado‘, and make-up artist Oscar Mulet received nomination in section ‘Mejor Maquillaje y Caracterización‘. The award ceremony took place on December 14th 2010 in Buenos Aires at 8pm in cinema Cine Gaumont. The movie did not win any award in the end.
On November 29th 2010 results of awards by Argentine magazine Pronto were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó won the first place and was thus awarded as the best movie of 2010 for readers of magazine Pronto. The movie received 43.6% of all votes.
On December 8th 2010 nominations for Uruguayan movie awards handed out by Uruguayan movie academy Asociación de Críticos de Cine del Uruguay were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó received five prestigious nominations. For her role of Natalia actress Natalia Oreiro received nomination as ‘Mejor Actriz‘.Sofía Silvera was nominated as ‘Revelación Femenina‘, for new starting talents. Art director Pedro Luque received nomination in section ‘Mejor Fotografia‘, while his colleague Gonzalo Delgado received nomination in follow up section ‘Mejor Dirección Artistica‘ for movie’s visual look. For movie’s outstanding music composer Ignácio Peréz Marín was nominated for award ‘Mejor Música‘. The award ceremony took place on December 14th 2010 at 8.30pm in Montevideo’s theater Teatro Solís. Miss Tacuarembó in the end didn’t win any of the nominated awards.
On March 6th 2011 nominations for prestigious Argentine film awards Premios Cóndor de Plata 2011 were announced. Movie Miss Tacuarembó received altogether seven nominations. Actor Diego Reinhold received nomination ‘Revelación Masculina‘. Movie Miss Tacuarembó was nominated as the best first feature film of the director ‘Mejor Opera Prima‘. Thanks to the movie script, as based on book by Dani Umpi, the movie received best script nomination ‘Mejor Guión Adaptado‘. Songs from the movie as composed by Ale Sergi, received nomination ‘Mejor Música Original‘. The movie received also three other nominations in sections ‘Mejor Dirección de Arte‘ for its outstanding cinematography, ‘Mejor Vestuario‘ for its costumes and ‘Mejor Sonido‘ for movie’s musical side. In the end the movie did not win any of the nominated awards.

On April 9th 2011 nominations for Uruguayan cinematographic awards IRIS 2011 were announced. Actress and singer Natalia Oreiro received nomination for award ‘Mejor Actor‘. The ceremony took place on May 30th 2011 in Montevideo. Oreiro came to the ceremony with her husband Ricardo Mollo and sister Adriana Oreiro, and in the end won the award. “I am extremely happy! It is a movie we filmed in Uruguay and I would like to dedicate this award also to Martín Sastre and Dani Umpi who made this movie! Moreover, I would like to thank everyone participating in the movie. I love you Uruguay!” said Oreiro who was very touched when receiving the award.

Movie Miss Tacurembó was apart from cinematographic release also part of variety of international film festivals. International world festival premiere took place in Switzerland in March 2011. In Europe, moreover, throughout of 2011 and 2012 the movie could be seen at festivals in Spain, Sweden, France, Italy and Ireland.
