According to various Argentine and international media, Natalia Oreiro was pregnant already several times. The question ‘When will you become a mother?’ was following Natalia in almost each interview from the beginning of her career. Her answers were:

Why do you think people would like to see you pregnant so much?
I don’t think it is the people who would want to see it; in life there are far more important things. I think that we are somehow socially constructed, to get married and have children. I will become a mother, but when I decide that it will happen. When I will feel like it is the right time. I desire to have desire to become a mother. I wish to wake up one day and say: “Now I desire to become a mother so much!” That is all. I am not the one to say: “I am 33 years old and my life goes by, let’s get pregnant.”

On July 13th 2011 there was for the first time announced in various Argentine media that Natalia Oreiro is pregnant. However, after many previous false alarms of Oreiro’s pregnancy, no one wanted to believe the news. But it was Oreiro herself, who on July 14th made an official statement on her website confirming her pregnancy:

“I want to share some great news with everyone: Yes..!!! I’m going to be a MOTHER. I should have been more careful about the timing, but evidently it was an impossible!!! I can’t expect to keep as a secret something that can’t be. Many thanks for sending me those messages of affection, We feel super happy!”

The news about pregnancy came apparently from someone from the production team of TV series Lynch, which was filmed in Columbia, and where joyful Natalia showed publicly her pregnancy ultrasound for the first time.

Also Oreiro’s friend and colleague Facundo Arana was from her pregnancy really happy and on his Twitter profile he wrote: "Congratulations Natyyy!!! Beautiful mother! Such beautiful news! I love you! I love you!!!"


News about Natalia Oreiro’s pregnancy flew all over the world and made headlines of Argentine as well as international media.


Where did Natalia get pregnant?
It was in first April days when Natalia Oreiro was just in the middle of filming of her movie Mi Primera Boda at the estate Villa María in Canuelas and all protagonists as well as the production team were for six weeks accommodated at the estate itself. Natalia’s husband Ricardo Mollo accompanied her at the estate. It was at that time when Natalia got pregnant. Natalia should give birth to her baby in January 2012.


Before departure to Colombia, on 7th June was Natalia photographed for new collection of Las Oreiro, where could be seen a little belly already. But nobody paid attention to it.

When Natalia made the official statement on her website, she was still in Colombia filming the miniseries. However, immediately after her return to Argentina, Natalia was a guest of show Susana Gimenez on August 15th 2011 where she showed her pregnancy belly for the first time and where she also revealed that she is expecting a baby boy. She also confirmed that she made a pregnancy test even before she went to Colombia in June.

“It was about time. We are together for ten years. We wanted a boy. Ricardo has two daughters already and I have my sister’s niece. We found out few days ago that it will be a boy. He will be a rocker for sure! At least he will have all the guitars at our home already,” Ølaughs Natalia who was present live in the show, where she also said that they are very happy with Ricardo and that also the whole family and friends are very happy for them.


Also Ricardo talked about his wife’s pregnancy in an interview for Radio 100 in August 2011: “At first I could not believe it. So I took my bike and went to pharmacy to buy another pregnancy test. And it was true! We do not want traditional name such as Lucas or Roberto. We are choosing the right one still. But we have already bought bed and walk aid for the baby. I will be in charge of changing diapers,” said Ricardo. He was also joking about the possibility of another children: “After this experience I think Naty will go and say ‘How beautiful is our only one son.’”

Natalia talked with newspaper Muy at the end of August 2011 about baby’s nationality: “He will be born in Buenos Aires, so he will be Argentinian. Here I have my family, doctors, so the baby will be born here.”
At the press conference for movie Mi Primera Boda on August 23rd 2011 Natalia said: “It was very desired pregnancy for my whole family, we are very happy.” The actress also revealed that she still does not have cravings, despite the fact that she loves chocolate. She said that she feels nauseas and tiredness: “The baby will be a rocker with long hair,” joked Natalia.
In an interview for magazine Luz from August 28th 2011 Natalia confirmed that she wished to give birth at home into water, but they are trying to change her mind to give birth in the hospital because it is her first baby to be born. “I also want my son to have childhood full of nature, adventures and music, that he would have dirty hands from ground, saw ants and birds, that we could plant trees together. I would also prefer if he went to public school, but well, that is thinking too much ahead. It is the first time I do not want to work, that feels fantastic, I want to enjoy motherhood.” Natalia also mentioned how she found out that she is pregnant: “We decided to have a baby and in month or so I started to feel different. And I realized that I must be pregnant. I felt the desire to have a baby and it came just like that.”
After a show Sabado Bus from August 27th 2011 Natalia gave an interview where she said that she feels a little slow and tired and that she works a lot promoting her latest movie Mi Primera Boda. She confirmed that her baby, who is having Uruguayan mother and Argentinian father, would be born in Argentina.
In an interview for magazine Gente from August 30th 2011 Natalia talked about her pregnancy, which was planned: “Yes, it was planned, but in very relaxed manner. We said ‘okay, now let’s forget being careful and do something…” (She laughs). I always said that I would become a mother when I will desire for it. And at one point at the end of last year I started to feel that desire. I was lucky that it came so fast.”

On September 12th 2011 Natalia talked in an interview for radio Metro about her motherhood and she admitted that she is considering to give birth at home: “The chance to give birth in my house is something I would love, but neither my doctor nor my friends agree.”
During filming TV show La biblia y el calefon on September 14th 2011 Natalia said that one of the possible baby’s names are ‘Merlín’ or ‘Atahuelpa’. Ricardo chose these names and Natalia likes both of them. She also said that she should be giving birth in the end of January 2012 and that so far she is not nervous at all. She said she feels relaxed and is enjoying her pregnancy.
Fashion show of Las Oreiro on September 15th 2011 was the last work Natalia had scheduled in her agenda for September. Natalia said in an interview: “From this moment you will see me less, at least till I become a mother. I want to take this time to enjoy my pregnancy. Also last weeks I went very public so I think people might be tired of me already,” smála se Naty.

On October 7th 2011 Natalia filmed a commercial for company Garbarino, where her pregnancy also played a role. In the commercial she was with talk show host Guillermo Lopez.
On October 9th 2011 Natalia was part of tales-reading for children in Montevideo and she also found time for an interview with newspaper El País, where she joked about a question if she is expecting twins: “I am in sixth month of pregnancy but it feels like twentieth month!” The name Merlín, possible name for Natalia’s son, was also a topic of interview: “For now we chose this name. Daddy chose it for him but to be honest, till I see his face I don’t know what name we will give him,” she explained.

On 12th December Natalia striped off and showed her belly in 8th month of pregnancy for campaign by Greenpeace. "I want my child to know forest." Was the main reason why Natalia showed herself naked and on her body were screened pictures of forests.
On 27th December was Natalia and Ricardo photographed by paparazzi of magazine Gente in their house in Carmelo, Uruguay. They were taking care of the garden in hot summer days and enjoying last weeks of pregnancy.

On Thursday January 26th 2012 was born a son of Natalia and Ricardo Merlín Atahualpa Mollo Oreiro. The Caesarean was held in clinic Los Arcos in Buenos Aires.
